Best entry level DSLR ..

I didn't mean to 'snap' .. its just I've heard enough times 'how bad I am because I take multiple shots'

Taking multiple shots doesn't mean your bad it means your learning it's only a problem if all 20 shots are bad.

How much more advice do you want Brandon? I think all bases are covered now m8 and it is up to you to decide.
There are only so many answers to your question and I think you are at that point.

Andy

I'm not looking for advice, I asked for a website.

I was just wondering if there was a website that allowed me to filter through cameras that didn't have the specs I want quicker than me having to search around a Jessops site looking at every camera to see if it shoots HD etc.

Sorry but you did ask for advice and have been given excellent advice too.
What will going on a comparison website achieve other than confuse you more?

Andy

We seem to be misunderstanding each other.

At the time you posted 'How much more advice do you want' I had actually stopped asking for advice and was asking about the website. I do not dispute that the advice I have recieved is excellent and am greatful for it and greatful for everyone who took the time to take a look at my thread and try to help me out.

I am not looking for a comparison site, I am looking for a site that can show me all the cameras that offer the specs that I want,
once I have the cameras, Yes, I will then look to compare and see which one offers the most for it's price and what one has extra features that may suit me more.

Go to a camera shop, all the comparisons you want in one place

To answer an earlier question, yes most DSLRs are now on SD /SDHC cards - I believe the change first starter happening back in 2008.

What the Internet can't do is let you hold the camera.
This has become quite a saga and I dread it when you go looking for a car or something important!

Andy

I was only kidding ;)
I'm quite happy going up to Jessops, I've been to the one in Moorgate when trying to purchase the camera I have now many-a-time. I had the problem that I'd only just opened my account and because of tight security rules and regs there was trouble getting such a large amount of money out after just opening the account.
So I went all the way up London atleast 5-6 times each time having my debit card fail only to find out that the clearment had paid on one I had ordered many moons before the whole palarvar from parkcameras.com. On the upside they were great and sent on the night they phoned to verify payment and I got it the next day !!!

Anyway, not sure how I managed to get into that mini novel ;)

Ever thought you may be better off taking up knitting instead :D

Brandon, I wasn't intending to mock you, my reply was meant jokingly in responce to your finance problems hence the :D
I have taken the trouble to reply to your request for advice and suggested that you check out the Sony A580, it's the right price does all you want and is very highly regarded but you didn't even acknowledge my help
I actually own one of the above along with my A900, although I don't use the video.
Anyway good luck with whatever you end up with.

By the way, you don't have to own a Nikon or a Canon, you are allowed to be different lol

I'd go for the 550D. It looks like you're over complicating it, at £300-£600 it really is much of a muchness.

I was talking more so about Keebsuk.
And I must have missed that sorry. I'll take a look.

A used canon 400d with decent glass should do you for some time.

I had mine for 3 years and only sold it to get my 50d. Would have liked to kept it as a second body but that wasn't viable.

I use a Nikon D3000 and I've had no problems whatsoever. Take a look at my flickr (in signature) to see some of the results from the camera.

(Not read the whole thread so sorry if this has already been mentioned).

It was a gentle Micky take but I hadn't realised that you would get the hump. I have also given you my advice but maybe I won't bother in future!

I appreciate all the advice, but you must understand that as a newbie here I don't yet feel comfortable with the 'friendly banter'.

I dont know any well enough yet to know if it's just a bit of fun or if your all just trying to take the mik

No worries but remember if you are seen to over react there are folk, not necessarily here, who will bait you for that sort of reaction. Don't take everything so seriously and be prepared to laugh at yourself when you make a gaff of something.

If you're still unsure on your camera choice, what I'd recommend is narrowing it down to a few choices (looks like the D5100 and the 550D) and then look at the reviews on http://www.dpreview.com. That should let you know whether both fit your needs and whether you'd be happy to buy one. Then get yourself down to a camera shop and put both in your hands. You need to hold them both, as some people absolutely detest the way a particular camera feels in their hand, so for that reason alone you need to go and have a feel (oo-err!). Deciding which feels best in your hand will probably make you mind up for you :)

I have planned a day trip to London, to make it more interesting I'm making it a photography day as well as a day to visit Jessops and look at the DSLRS and have a fiddle (oo-err!). ;)
I think I'll be looking to try the A580, 550D and the D5100.
If one store doesn't have one of the cameras then I can walk to another.

The amount of miles I must have walked around London looking for Moorgate Jessops >.< I more or less know the place off the back of my hand ! Although saying that I'll probably still get lost :(

the sony looks like the winner from that.
Better image quality than the 550D, I can live with a view finder 0.02x smaller.
I prefer cameras a bit heavy with more bulk to them, feels better.
I haven't had a problem yet with start up times.
Panoramas are good but I cant unofrtunately make use of 3D.
7FPS s much better than 550D
Built in AF and IS more focus points, in camera HDR, flip out screen.

I believe this is the camera for me John, lets just hope I can bare holding it and it's not too small or anything. I'm actually really looking forward to going up to the shops and checking this and maybe others out. !!!

Just check the price, availability etc of accessories Brandon, particularly any extra lenses you may want to get.

Andy

True, I don't see myself getting many lenses though.
Probably just one decent one for macro and one with a decent zoom range on it and that'll do me I'd say. Maybe a ultra wide angle.
I might get a cheap fish eye lens I saw on eBay too just for the sake of it ;)

I'd get myself atleast one spare battery, maybe some filters but that can all be done with Photoshop or some other software.

A flash will eventually be bought, I may just start myself off with a cheap LED one, it surely has to be a step up from the built-in flash, or atleast it'll look better ;)
If there's an external mic adapter I may concider getting a mic, especially if the built in one picks up the mechanical noises from the camera.
Erm what other accessories could I eventually get.
I could get a remote but that's not as fun as setting a time and running into the picture :P

I've got a tri-pod and the bag for my S200EXR should be big enough for this camera. the S200EXR has one bulky lens.

I'm sure I can get all of that and at a fair price (second hand from eBay)

And I won't have to spend extra on lenses with IS because it's built into the camera ! Bonus !

A remote is for much more than allowing you to be in the frame. On a slow shutter speed shot for instance, even touching the shutter release with your finger may be enough to blur the image.
