Best digital compact for £200-300

Any advice on this appreciated...I have no idea about compacts and whats good right now.

Personally, I'm a great fan of the Olympus XZ-1; cracking f/1.8-2.5 lens with a usable zoom range, great colour reproduction, handy size, ability to shoot RAW, it does everything I want from a compact. Trouble is, I can't be that objective about it as my other 'compacts' are 35mm rangefinders and the only other digital compacts I've used are older, like the Ricoh GX200.

Might be an idea to have a browse on dpreview. Their reviews normally include a 'compared to' page where they put a camera up against the competition in the same sector, which could widen your options.

Canon S95 is up there for that money.

Photography blog has a good round up of compacts. They did ones in the 'travel zoom' category. No idea what that is. Think it just means bigger zoom
