Perhaps the clue was in the name... "Fuji S5 Pro".

The D200 was considered a lowest of the low end pro body, but still a pro body according to Nikon. The S5 Pro is much better than the D200 for dynamic range. Doesn't even come close.

The S5 killed the D200, showing Nikon what was possible, I tease because there are fans out there. In wide DR setting it slowed it down but my God it was good.

I thougth there was more to it than that? Like a really high dynamic range... and isn't it a full frame
sensor...

No it's a crop, but better handled.

I don't think it's a full frame sensor, not based on the D200 body anyway.

The Canon 10D was the camera which finally persuaded most serious users that digital was enough of a viable proposition at a reasonably affordable price, and the camera which really started people unloading their 35mm film gear in large numbers.

I don't think you could really describe that as "in the reach of everyone".....

I meant in the reach of all not because we could all go out and get one but unlike the d30 and d60 before it, you could see one in any high street. It was there in the shops we all went in and that helped to make the concept of the DSLR one that we could see as a real future.

The problem with the S5 was that Fuji just didn't know how to market it. On paper it made no sense whatsoever, it was quite a bit more expensive than a D200,slower and with less pixels.

It's a shame they fell out of bed with each other because today they would have done more great things. Not saying the 300s is bad but there is room for improvement!

But back on OP question for me the Dxx and xxxD cameras from Nikon and Canon have made the consumer market of DSLR ignite and live on, the 550D especially alongside it's Nikon cousin the D90 prove this.
