Hey guys! So I've got a press and photography pass to a UK Festival (Beachbreak) this June and was contemplating hiring some lenses for it (my wallet doesn't stretch that far!). I'll be using a Canon 60D. Which lenses would best suit me? I'll spend most of my time on the pit and hopefully on side-stage at a few performances. I was thinking 70-300 f/2.8 and something else... Let me know! :D

What lenses do you have now?

70-200mm F2.8 - definitely.
Consider the 17-55mm F2.8 as well

And if you don't have one, an ultra wide down to say 10-12mm for the crows shots would be handy too.

70-300mm f2.8 doesn't exist

if you're going to be close to the action then definitely a small zoom(s) or prime(s) lens. 70-200mm f2.8 MKII maybe, 17-55mm f2.8, 24-70mm f2.8 85mm f1.8 50mm f1.4 100mm f2 etc....... it depend whether its predominantly night shots (stage light show), day shots (shadows), can you use flash? The 60D ok but you'll be pushing its ISO performance to the max, personally hiring a 5D MKII would be on the cards as well as its has a much better ISO performance for this type of photography, but understand your budget constraints

For out work at festivals the main lens of choice is the 70-200, coupled with a 24-70 on second body.

Personally when I shoot festivals I also need my fisheye and 16-35 for the different angles as opposed to tight crops but then it depends on what images my clients are really wanting me to focus on.

I found my 85mm f1.8 to be really handy at a recent gig, especially on a crop body as it's essentially like a 135mm - AF is lighting quick too. Also had a 55-250mm on me, I know it's not even in the same league as the 70-200L but it did the job pretty well.
