Yes
Not much I know! But researching for a friend of a friends birthday. Currently using a 10 year old Kodak so anything should be an improvement!

Needs to be easy to use, mostly outdoors, a long zoom would be nice but not essential.

Thoughts anyone?

edit: of all the random requests... has to be available in pink too :gag:

I think £80 is a difficult price point, if you could stretch to £100 or so they you could look at a refurbished Fuji F200/F70 or the cheapest Canon Ixus models.

I think Sony do a few cheapish cameras, such as the S2000 for around £70.

I won't hesitate to recommend a Canon A480 or A490.

I bought one recently for when I can't carry the DSLR, and for £60, it is unbelievable value. Great image quality, and a pretty nifty macro mode!

I think you can get it in red, but not pink though.

Yes I was looking at A495's but lack of pink was a dealbreaker :( I offered to respray it too!

nikon L22 is excellent for the money, £69.

my big sis has it, she's dead pleased, I had a play was really excellent. Build quality isn't stellar but at this price point what can you expect.
its a shame very.co.uk don't still have Panasonic FS15, I got mine for £70 witha voucher code

edit: oh even cheaper on Amazon:

I recently got one of these for my 75 year old dad and he's over the moon (and he loves pink).

Decent zoom, great macro and perfectly acceptable IQ. Build quality is about what you'd expect for the price but it doesn't feel cheap and tacky. Biggest cost saving is that it uses aa batteries.

FWIW I paid just over half of that price when Argos was clearing their Christmas stock
