Yes
looking for help with finding a good camera for the wife. she wont use my d700 due to size/weight and being to complicated. will be for taking snap shots of the kids only.

criteria as follows

must be small( tryed to get her to go m4/3 but the size put her off)

must take good quality pictures in jpeg .so she can just upload straight fron cam.

idealy with have instant responce no wait after hitting the shutter release for it to take the pic

must work in auto mode

idealy something that will take a fee bumps aswell.

not too bothered about
raw
long zoom range.

any ideas would be great seems to be a mindfield when it comes to compacts.

edit... okay she might consider a m4/3 but would have to be a small one. her friend brought a nex5 around and the lens size was the issue

Instant response doesn't really happen with a PaS although I believe the new Nikon 1 cameras have the fastest AF of any compact camera (could be wrong, I don't pay much attention to these things) and I think there will soon be an adapter to use your F mount lenses on them.

However, that isn't really pocketable as a camera so if you want something that fits in a pocket a Canon S95/100 is still the best option IMO.

If all she wants is a point and shoot to take jpegs then the S95 is waay over specified and the budget is waay over what's needed. Plenty of good Canons to fit the bill for less than £200.

I'd suggest she goes for a Canon S95 - now down to £230 at Amazon and a real bargain at that price for quality and spec.

This is a great little camera, capable of superb results and way under your budget.

It will do everything she wants (but check the zoom range is what she wants) and more and she will be able to grow with the cameras abilities if she needs to later on.

It is a superb, pocket-able camera capable of stunning results and very, very user friendly.

for just under £300
came with a water proof case and a few other bits to

good alround camera IMO

A used X10 would be my choice, hands down. I suggest used because of your budget. The camera is a superb compact with excellent image quality.
