Best Canon kit for £1000

What kind of stuff would you be shooting ?

Or do you really mean what would I get ?

Hi Mel
I would suggest buying a good 2nd hand body some 40D Canons are going at very low prices
around the £300 mark seems to be the area the go for which is an awful lot of camera for that money and offers better value than paying £500 for the basic entry models I think it would be wise to spend more on glass than body
a great lens and very sharp is 70-200F4 non IS which can be had for around £350
add to that the little nifty fifty for £80 new and you starting to have the makings of a formidable kit bag also something a little wider another great buy is the 17-40F4 which can be had 2nd hand for under £400 if that is stretching the budget too far try the 28-135 Canon zoom which can be had for just over £200 if you looks in the adds etc
keep your eyes peeled in the adds all the time as there is always some nice gear offering huge savings over new which dramatically cuts the spending

This seems like some very good kit for the money.

Where would I be able to get these or some of these items?

Thanks

Paul

40d, 70-200 f4, 17-50 tamron or the 18-50 siggy and a 50mm f1.8. Then a flash, 430ex should do it. You may even have a few pounds left for a bag! All second hand of course.

what about the canon 5d... it's full frame? get that and a nifty fifty and then a 2.8 third party walkaround?

You could do but you would then miss out on the tele lens and a flash, which may well be useful at conferences.

there seems to be plenty of 40D's in the selling part of the forum every few days just look out for a low mileage looked after body and it should serve you well for years to come
the same applies with Lenses - its all a case of balancing good quailty Lens with getting within your budget
spending more on quality lenses will be more benefit to you in the long run and the kit I suggest seems to come in around the budget

You have two routes to take... get a high end body with a kit lens, play with it for awhile and slowly but surely get good glass later on.
Second is to do as Chris said, it all depends on if you want to be shooting right now (not that the kit will give you bad results, its just limited in range and aperture) or if intend on making this a long term thing.
Some of us get a good quality lens every few years and the main bonus with lenses is they keep their value.

Have just done pretty much what your asking
So far have a 1 year old 50d, 28-135 and 90mm macro and so far less than £850 spent and leaving some money for a ex430 flash

Canon 40d, sigma 18-50mm, canon 70-200mm, nifty 50 and a 430ex. (all used to make the budget stretch)
