best camera bag

I know we have - I'm not disagreeing with you

for focusing we were talking about speed and accuracy - in anything but perfect conditions the AF-G is miles ahead of the D.

Ahead but not miles but this is more about best choice of body and then lens that fits in the money left so

posts - #30, #31, #32, #33 & #35 - grab a D200 and get the best lens you can afford with the change.

kk i think i can get a D2H for 280 on the classifieds if i see a D200 ill defo be putting that first as i dont really wont to be carrying a massive bag :)
out of interest how does the F/1.4-D and the F/1.8 feel, are they well built ? being a clumsy person this is important for me :P

both D versions? day to day you won't notice a world of difference.

for your budget it probably is, but for sports in general you'd want something longer without the budget constraints, what sort of extreme sports did you mean btw

o n one more thing is a 50mm the best choice for first (and for a while) only lens ????

Yes the 50mm is a decent lens as your only choice but you could probably pick up an 18-55 kit lens for maybe £40-50 and then get that back later when you upgrade.

Re the build quality issue, as has been said not a lot in it but both 1.4 variants have metal mounts. This does not make a lot of difference in the big scheme of things though.

There is a D80 in the classifieds for £250 inc postage which would be better than the D2H although not as good as the D200. Would still leave more for lenses.

my budget was for 600, camera and lens, that seems to be camera plus lens :)

cool, what sort of sports are you shooting? you may be better off going for the d80/d200 still and a longer lens

I would go for the D80 or D200 as we've already said. The D90 is better than both (slightly) image wise but I would still chose a D200 over a D90 for it's feel etc.

You could pick up a D200 for £425, 2nd hand AF 50mm f1.8 for £75 and maybe a 70-300 for a little over £100

Ok what about D80 £250 and 18-135 £135 (both from classifieds)

= £385

£100 for AF 50mm f1.8

= £485

leaves £115 for a cheap tripod, flash from FITP and maybe a filter or two.

Nice little setup to start with and quite flexible.

the body seems good, and the 50 f1.8 also seems ok - but you should ne able to pick these up for £80 or so (worth not paying more)

I don't rate that 70-300 but if its the only option in budget, then you may as well. There is a VR version for ca 400 which is 10x better but way over budget

Clearly a company that do not specialise in camera equipment as the text is a direct rip from Nikon's original brochure... "New prodigious camera...." and they got the memory card type wrong as SD instead of CF.

The price is OK but have they been able to check it thoroughly?

The other stuff would make a nice collection!!

Better selection than my one above but without the extra bits, you can however pick them up as you go along.

The 70-300 is a seriously budget lens BUT you will get the money back from it when you sell it to upgrade. £100 does seem a lot for the AF 50mm f1.8 they seem to come up on here at £75-85 regularly. It just depends on how quickly you want everything.

I'd ring the D200 seller (his number is under contact details near the bottom of the advert) and tell him you will have it if he chucks in a CF card and doesn't charge for next day postage :)

what size momery card should i ask for ?

See if you can wangle a 4Gb but at least a 2Gb. I am of the opinion that lots of 4Gb cards is far better than one 16Gb.

You can always rely on have one in the bag then when you forget the you took the card out and left it in the memory card reader! Also if something happens to a card you haven't lost everything. It is also good because if you do a gig on Friday and take 200 pics on one card you can leave it at home and still have other blank ones. I just change it when there is a small gap in proceedings and I get to maybe 20 spaces left.

You will love the D200 it is a perfectly capable camera and just feels like a D300s that is still current.

cool and when you do get a response, there is a 50 1.8 in classifieds for £75 at the moment

Playing catch up this morning! Great news Llama about the D200 purchase, you will not be dissapointed. Please let us know how you get on?

That is a superb deal

You will love whichever 50mm you stick on it. The AFS 1.4 is wonderful but not two and a bit times better. Saying that though I bought one :)

Enjoy.
