nowt wrong with starting on a pro body imho
no theres not, but one that old will take far worse pictures then one of the current entry level nikons for the same cash
be a nicer transition to a d3 if he likes it though
at this point i'll admit I don't know how old a d2h is so could be barking up the wrong tree
QUOTE=boyfalldown;2867380]for £300 I'd of thought you could pick up a later(then the d2h) generation entry /mid level dslr which will take better photos and which as your first camera you'll get more from
i dont no about those but the reason i was considering the D2H was i will be sing it mainly for sports photography (extreme sports) so it made sense to me to buy one that specialized in it (please tell me if I'm wrong) so the criteria i would be looking for would be a fast burst shot (at least 8fps) and a high shutter speed
do any of those cameras come under that?
thank you jack
its summer 2003 and a bit carp by todays standards -4mp and very noisey
ah I was working on it being 1 model old not like 3 :s
ok the lens i was coning to get first was the
AF-S 50mm f/1.4G
will that be compatible, from what i read i think it is but i dont fully understand thouse tabels![]()
its overkill
so am i right that the choice is between D80 D200 D2H?
my insticcant (having briefly looked over the D80 and D200) would be the D200 but i am still tempted by the cheaper body and slightly better lens
what does the G mean in AF-S 50mm f/1.4G and what will it do ?
thank you
jack

rather over kill than under kill..........
The non motor consumer bodies would leave you feeling short changed and create further cost later
BUT
D3000 & AFS 50mm f1.4G
or
D200 & AF 50mm f1.8
Hmm...... D200 & AF 50mm f1.8 every time
Generally (but not always) these are slightly faster and more accurate to focus

I'd agree with almost everything but the overkill bit, with the exception of EG I still think a pro body (and especially an old one) holds youi back with what it assumes you know
There have been numerous arguments about this though!
The AF 50mm f1.4 focuses FASTER than the AFS 50mm f1.4G
The AFS 70-200mm f2.8 focuses FASTER Than the AF 80-200mm f2.8
For accuracy hmmmm you will again find people that disagree. Some of the sharpest lenses ever are AF so there is no problem with this way of doing it.
I did say generallyand of the examples you've given although the 50mm f1.4d does focus faster than the 1.4g its not more accurate. Try them in low light and watch how much the AF-D hunts compared to the AF-G
Try them in sun light... We were talking about speed not low light focusing
We have highlighted the BEST choice for that amount of cash several times now.
