Get Spyder3Elite or Spyder4Eilte

Don't get Spyder Pro or Express, Elite is the best version of Spyder.

It's the same hardware device as the Pro?! The elite does have some extra software options but mostly do nothing more than the pro version!

Well, i can see there are some advantage of Elite over Pro, for me that is enough for me to go with Elite, and i am lucky because the price difference is not that much for me to choose the cheapest options, i like to have the best out of options if i have a budget to get the best, it is not 1000 pounds or $2000, and i am happy with Elite, i read on another sites that some members are not so happy with Pro and they changed mind when they upgraded to Elite, if you feel and believe that Pro is all what you need and you can't justify elite version or not necessary then go with Pro, no problem.

If the OP said what's the best (with no budget constraints)- THe best wouldn't even be a Spyder Elite!

Spyder4 Express is a cost-effective colorimeter that quickly calibrates monitors, tablets, TVs and projectors right out of the box.

Spyder4 Pro is ideal for those that want more control over light and color management, offering ambient light measurement, and the ability to calibrate multiple devices.

Spyder4 Elite offers the highest level of customization. Developed for professional photographers and others who must match colors in extremely fine detail, the Spyder4 Elite enables users to deeper analysis of display quality, and the ability to calibrate professional workflow targets with L-star tone response curve.

So just work out where you fit in.

I recommended Spyder because it is a combination of performance and price, it is not the best in the world and it is not the most expensive, but it can do very nice job at its price, sure there are better option more pricey, i calibrated 4 monitors and they all look great after calibration.

I do appreciate that - I was just making the point that the Pro will do as good a job for pretty much most users. It's the same hardware and the Elits has a couple of extra bits in the software. The device with the pro software will still calibrate very well.

The device is same for all the version of Spyder4, but the software could be worthy the extra bucks or pennies, don't ignore how good different versions of the software can do, it is not always only by hardware.

I agree but the difference from basic to pro is considerable but less so at the higher. Always a choice of a capable product and bells and whistles if you have the cash. I'm a bells and whistles guy but appreciate the need for value.

Let see what will the OP get, at the end he should post his impression after purchasing.

I owned a Spyder Pro and it did what I wanted (calibrated my monitor). But I did eventually want something that could do more - so the Colormunki Photo was the choice - Does a great job and a bonus does my paper profiling for my printer too :)

Come to think of it the colormunki display could be the etter choice for display calibration at a very reasonable price,

What are the exact differences between the express pro and elite versions?

Is pro worth the extra £35??

Best to read their comparisons. Up to you wherher you want to spend more for simethong that will do pretty much the same thing.

In other words buy the express lol

Quite annoyed this morning as my Huey calibration meter seems to have broken, just as I was colour correcting an image to complete an order, aaaargh!!!

I won't be buying another huey product it's been playing up for a couple of months giving a horrible psychodelic look to all my photos and now it won't correct that.

Think one of the X-rite versions will do me just means going to have to wait

i bought a spyder 3 pro in the end, brand new and still factory sealed for £60 delivered - couldnt be happier

Thats a really good price, may I ask where from?

Yeah i'm finding it hard to justify the spend too. Everyone who hasn't got one should group buy one then send it to each other on a rota!:)

If memory serves me right, there was a thread earlier this year where you added your name to the bottom of the list and one was doing the rounds.

You were asked to just make a copy of the enclosed software CD and use that and when finished post it on to the next person in the list (PMing them for address details etc.)

I remember this thread and was eagerly looking for it but couldn't find it again.

So if anyone would be happy to lend one for a calibration... :D :D ;)

I bought one of the new (my first) 2012 edition Macbook pros and thought the screen looked a bit warm with a slight yellow'ish tint - nothing like my current windows laptop or previous windows systems for that matter. Either the Mac was way out or windows was.

I bought Spyder 4 pro and used it on the Macbook and it made little difference and then I tried it on the my HP windows laptop and OMG:eek: what a difference it made. Gone were the cold blue'ish saturated white tints of windows and the colours/tones now closely matched my Macbook.

Conclusion - the Macbook was ok in the first place whereas the windows laptop wasn't. Now I have 2 machines that I can use simultaneously for editing and get consistency with colours/prints. You may not like the result of your calibration however if it's about getting as near as possible realistic display then it works imo.

Problem with calibration is you need to keep doing it every few weeks. Borrowing on is a very short term solution
