Best Business trip...Ever!

Ive just been told im being sent to see one of our Suppliers in Munich at the end of September. Ill be there for 2 days, and it happens to coincide with this years Oktoberfest (20th Sep - 5th Oct). My contact over there is apparently 'making arrangements' for us for the first evening. His exact words were, "You want Okotberfest? Youve GOT Oktoberfest".

The meeting we have the follwoing day, may not be particularly constructive.

What have been the best/most fun business trips youve been on?
 
Funnily enough, mine was a conference in...Munich. During Oktoberfest.

I don't remember much about the conference, but the feedback for my presentations was very positive, so I must have been good. Either that, or the audience were more hungover than I was... ;-)
 
funnily enough mines Oktoberfest as well. We used to have a supplier who would always arrange meetings for that week.
 
Singapore with the Ex-husbands company. he worked i spent the days shopping and sight seeing and the evenings being wined and dined by the company..
 
Had a few good business trips the past 2 years.

2012 - had a great little trip down to Napa Valley, Sonoma, Russian River Valley & Santa Barbara, visiting more of our wineries, all on the companies dime. 2 nights in San Francisco & a Michelin star restaurant to top the trip off. Had the pleasure of diverting the cork dorks to the Russian River Brewing Co. bar whilst in Sonoma, to give them a taste of some great sours and wine barrel aged beers :)

3 months later was a 12 day trip around France, visiting our wineries in Reims, Alsace, Beaune, Chablis, Cote du Rhone, Chateauneuf du Pape, capped with 4 days in Paris either side of the trip. Again, all on the companies dime.

Then last year a 14 day trip to take in wineries in Spain & Portugal. Barcelona was the base for 5 days, travelling to the Penedes & Priorat regions, before flying off to Cordoba for a few days, and then ended up in Porto for 5 days, staying at the Taylor Fladgate 5* hotel, with a view of the river, and then staying at Quinta de Vargellas deep in the Douro Valley. We were also there for the Festival of Sao Joao; Porto was a scene of utter madness and fun.

2015 was supposed to be a trip to Australia, but there's been too much moaning about the trip from some in the company, so now it may be Scotland and South France instead. I'd be happy if they sent us to our wineries in Chile & Argentina, though!
 
Napa. ...Sonoma....etc. etc....I hate you :lol:

On the other hand, Baghdad's green zone was a laugh a minute :lol:

I lived in the region for a year (sf).
There's no "bad season".

Did manage a 6 month secondment to New England a few years ago. From that I can safely say that the town of Groton is every bit as bad as it sounds. And that Mystic Pizza trades solely on being the setting for the film of the same name and makes possibly the worse Pizza I've ever tasted (except maybe Dominos but its close run)

Ok, makes my 2 days in Munich during Oktoberfest seem a little ...meh :D
 
I've been to Vegas twice, though generally early to bed with 6am starts - good last night's though!

Also had the fortune in a previous role of going to all England football matches (some might say misfortune) home and away for just over 3 years. Despite losing, one of the best was England v Argentina in the 98 WC, and got to fly on the England team play too! Was hard work out there but very interesting.
 
My best business trip was probably the week long conference in Berlin in November 1989. I was there during the build up and the aftermath of the wall coming down. The feeling of being there when history was being made was quite remarkable. Other business trips have included a safari in South Africa and game fishing off the coast of Mauritius. It's hard work but someone had to do it!
