Best books for beginners ?

Andy Rouse,Digital SLR masterclass,I found it very good for a novice like I..........

It doesn`t mention filters though..........:naughty:

Understanding exposure by Bryan Peterson is an excellent book to help with learning the relationships between aperture, shutter speed and ISO. There are lots on here who really rate this book.

Is it an "all round"book so to speak or is it as the name suggests , just about exposure ?

must admit this book has caught my eye

The scott kelby books are alright, and would give you a good overview of lots of stuff, but you can find most of that info on the internet.

The best book I read for learning the main stuff was Understanding Exposure, great book to learn the ins and outs of lighting, aperature, shutter speed etc. Which to be fair is the main things to learn.

I still find the forums are the best places for learning.

 very helpful for a newbie.

I learnt loads from Understanding exposure (Not that it shows:D). I have coupled that with a book called the photographers eye, to learn about composition. Much better than the all-round book I was given.

mmmmm , looks like "understanding exposure" could be the book of choice , just Googled it (again) and its highly rated

Both books above are very suitable for beginners wishing to learn more about the relationships between ISO, shutter speeds, apertures, focal lengths etc and will cover most other apsects of photography too.

To learn more about lighting and how to improve your lighting techniques have a look at Light. Science & Magic by Hunter, Biver & Fuqua

I do , but people seem to get upset with the same old questions

I think a book may be the way forward

True, but there are more to the forums than getting one of your shots critiqued. Most of the 'silly' questions have already been asked, I tend to use the search before asking a question and 9 times out of 10, someone would have asked the exact same question. I bought a few books, then hit on the brainwave of joining the public library, which hads loads of photography books, which saved me a few quid.

So don't buy a beginners book that you will read once, buy a book that you will go back to again and again, understanding exposure of lights, science, magic are two such books.

I agree its a great book for beginners but once you have read it and understand you then need to progress to something like
Light: Science and Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting

its on my 'to buy next' list. You can easy pass on the understanding exposure on through tp classifieds.
