Yes
The Nikon D90 manual is thick and tells you everything but tells you nothing if you know what I mean.
Looked at Nikon D90 for Dummies but it doesnt get great reviews, any other suggestions?
Thanks

I have the "dummies" book to the D90 - I found it easier to read than the Nikon manual, with some useful tips as well as camera control info etc.

Amazon Reviews were not too bad, and at £10 the price was OK too.

The other book I considered was The Nikon D90 Companion by Ben Long - this looks to be more examples and results based using the D90, rather than a D90 manual replacement which the Dummies guide tries to be.

Thanks to Vishal for drawing attention to my 'For Sale' thread :)

I haven't read the others but Thom Hogan comes very well recommended in many reviews and I can certainly vouch for the understandable way he puts over the workings of the D90 in great depth.

I've got a D300 now and, you've guessed it, I've got his guide to that ;)

I've found the Magic Lantern Guides (to the D200 and D700) very useful. Much better written than the Nikon manuals and plenty of handy hints and tips to help you get the best from the camera. Have a look for D-Town; video tips.

Thanks Guys, the Ben Long book seems to get best overall reviews and under a tenner delivered.

As you said, the manual tells you everything and nothing. Everything about your camera, nothing about photography.

Your best bet is to look for photography books rather than books specific to a certain model of camera. I got the Magic Lantern and other guides for my D100 & D200 and ultimately found them no more useful than the manuals that came with the camera.

thanks Kaouthia, the ben long book seems to cover both aspects according to reviews, cant go wrong under a tenner, very least I'll have a better manual for the D90;)

Ken Rockwell does a guide you can read on line, have a punt through that before you spend any money.......usual disclaimers!
