Hi all, have just purchased a bowens 200/200 kit and am looking for a backdrop - I feel that a vinyl one ticks all the boxes and was considering a Bessel double sided black/white one about 1.45 x 4m has anyone used one of these backdrops? What do you think of their finish and light reflection/absorption qualities?
Thanks, Dougie.

I have a Bessel white vinyl background, i have only used it as a floor, but i have to say it does seem quite thin, however i have nothing to compare it too, so it's hard to judge how it compares to other vinyls, but i think it is the general consensus on here, that their vinyl backgrounds are thin, although some of their other products are very good for the price. Their is a company call VIEWFINDER who apparently do some good one's, i think Garry Edwards has purchased from them so it may be Worth contacting him on here, for a more informed opinion :)

Yes. I'm happy with the white vinyl background I bought from Viewfinder.

Thanks for that gents. I guess you get what you pay for. I'm hoping there is someone who has used the double sided one and can give feedback. In any event I will probably give one a go and if it's no good swap to a viewfinder single sided.

I have one too and have used it on a few school shoots with no fuss. Good value in my opinion.

Bessel's standard vinyl backdrops are 400gsm, and 600gsm for the double sided version. Viewfinder's are 600/660gsm in standard and 900gsm in the heavy duty. If Garry was happy with a 660gsm backdrop, I'd guess the Bessel double sided at 600gsm is probably good enough. Bear in mind also that whatever backdrop support you're using needs to support the weight. If the backdrop is rolled up or just touching the floor, it's supporting the full weight (m width x m length x gsm / 1000) = weight in kg. Obviously, if half of it is on the floor, then the backdrop support is only taking half the weight.

Thanks for that info. We will just be using a narrow backdrop to start with but I'll be buying stands which are designed for vinyl anyway.

I have a bessel double sided and find it is fine for my needs,no complaints
