Leaving on the 15th December, I'll be there for a week, back in time for Christmas but with German goodies! Anybody reccommend must sees?

Lap dancing ...........

/edit - sorry - that's a cheap shot

Berlin's such a huge place, its tricky to give good steers.

Check out the Zoo and the Brandenberg Gate. But better, get people shots. The Christmas markets are ace for that sort of thing.

At the Brandenburg gate there are quite a few 'tag along' walking tours where you pay what want at the end. Really is very worth while as you will get a lot of history and see bits you would have otherwise walked past. Worth doing on your first day as it will give you lots of ideas.

A quick search on Google using 'walking tour berlin' will get you lots of options.

Have lunch or breakfast in the Reichstag. If you are going to the restaurant you do not have to queue (it can be very long ie. hours) and you get a personal escort to the top. Just book the restaurant and then walk past the queue and let them know you have a booking. They will open a side door just for you :)

not overly expensive and very very good
edit: just checked the lunch prices on the link I gave and I did not pay that much. Was about £30 per head including a beer and a coffee.

I absolutely enjoyed every minute of Berlin.

Berlin is a great place for photographing. I went in October and the Tiergarten was beautiful - the leaves had all turned brown earlier than in England and had fallen off. Would highly recommend the Reichstag just for the views from the top. The queues aren't too bad at this time of year - we only waited an hour or so in the busiest time of day.

Brandenburg gate is right next to it as well so its easy to kill two birds etc.

If you like stadiums, you can roam around the Olympiastadium for a few Euros - really easy to get to on the U-Bahn.

Checkpoint Charlie is fantastic if you're a bit of a history buff - the photographs around the area are really brought alive by actually being able to SEE the streets they were captured in.

The Sony Centre is also a must - the architecture around the area is stunning and is a great place to have a relaxing pint (or litre as you will get!).

My best advice is to get a day ticket for the U-Bahn as it helps you cover a staggering amount of the city. I went for 3 days in October, and saw all the above and more. Great place that I will look forward to visiting again someday!

Zur Letzten Instanz food is big and german, lots of beer and a great atmosphere. In the summer it can get very touristy but give the bar staff and waitresses a chance, try and speak a little german and they'll reward you with fantastic hospitality. The barman and I became friends for the night as he told me about his life in east berlin. Very interesting and sent me away with a collection of bottled beers...magic place but let down by the fact it's in so many tourist guides...would be a great time to go now.

I went to Berlin a few months ago for 3 days, and loved it!

So I don't really know yet what makes a good picture. However, I think this place probably would. It's about 5 minutes walk from the Brandenburg Gate.
>Link to show you what I mean<

First day we got there we went to the top of the tower (if it's a clear day I recommend this). It really shows the city off and how it is split etc. Then a walk up Unter den Linden and to the gate. From there it's only 5 minutes to the Reichstag, and another 5 to the memorial.

The Sony Centre is probably worth a look, the roof is great. :)

And dont forget to check out the Ampelmann shop. hehe

Been to Berlin a couple of times. Brilliant City.

Check out the usual suspects of the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Check Point Charlie.

I would also recommend the Halocaust Memorial, very powerful place. Also the Sony Centre, Berlin Zoo and the television tower in the old Eastern side of the city. You can go to the top and get some great city views and there's a bar!!!!! behind the tv tower is alexander platz, which is where they shot some of the scenes from the Bourne Supremacy.

Outside the zoo is an old bombed out church, which is quite a popular photographic subject. KaDeWee is up the road also which is the largest department store in europe.

There are various places where you can still see part of the old Berlin Wall, around the check point charlie area.

The main station is a pretty spectacular building, think is it the biggest in europe and some of the embassy buildings, especially the nordic group are pretty cool.

The Underground or U-Bahn is great, although you stamp your ticket before you get on the trains, not after you get off!!!!

We took a bus tour which was also very imformative and you can get on and off when you want.

'Felix' is a pretty happening place for the night time, which is near brandenburg :woot:

Enjoy
