Hi all,

I have a Lowepro lens case that goes on your belt like this and really like it - I bought it as a proof of concept to see if I could get on with this kinda thing.

What I would like is a complete system that goes on your belt, so batteries, cards, speedlight(s), couplea lenses and maybe a camera holster. Like Think tank make here.

Does anyone have any experience with these, and could anybody recomend a specific product set (I have a think tank bag and love it hence I mentioned the thinktank kit, but I am not brand specific until I buy kit). The Lowepro one is nice but not quite finished as the top pocket is only really usable for a filter and the pouch cost a tenner and was full with a 50mmf1.4 with hood - which could get dear :O

Regards,
David

You will end up with your trousers around your ankles! Iv got a Lowpro lens pouch for a 70-200, i used it at the weekend for a couple of small lenses and memory cards, i had to keep pulling my self straight! i took it off in the end!

its fine - you put it on your BELT not your trousers :P

like tonight I'm going to do some club shots with body+17-50, prime, speedlight, memory, batteries, wallet, phone, fags and keysand my combat shorts (beach themed night) are pretty darned full with cam over my shoulder (Prime in belt pouch atm - all other stuff in various pockets)

Other times I have used jackets with loadsa pockets but I usually take em off to shoot as often its warm :S

right update with new knowledge - putting a load of batteries and triggers and stuff in your shorts pocket is a pain in the arse when walking home and it bangs into your lege with every step and is pointy - even more settled on holsters as the way forward now

Save yourself some dosh and get down to your local army surplus store, and pick up some used webbing... You could die it black if you were bothered about the colour.

how does it compare to proper kit? I'm all for saving money but it might well be false economy..... Especially considering I would like to fit an 80-200f2.8 in a pocket and possibly a body and lens combo.....

also looking like an SAS extra wouldn't be so suitable for some places so is it very army'y ?

You could try the Viper assault vest! iv got one in black and its very useful! im not too sure it would go down well at weddings but other events!

Here.

Viper vest,works great.

Don`t wear it in London on the tube.

Just my 2 penneth

I have 2 LowePro lens cases for my 17-35mm f2.8 and my 80-200mm f2.8. I do wear them on an inch and a half width belt together with spare batteries and my SB800 flash.

In all honestly it's fine to a degree (the point about wearing it around your ankles within half and hour is definitely valid), but the main activities I shoot, involve me often having to run from shot to shot with my gear. This type of setup is a pain as you have all these items jangling around your waist trying to go in opposite directions as you run. The best compromise I found so far is the "sling bag" I have - easy to remove/put on and holds everything in place when I run albeit in the one cluttered compartment.

I use the Lowepro belt & the shoulder harness. All bought at half price from Ffords http://www.ffordes.com/index.htm They have still got some belts and shoulder harnesses at reasonable prices in their used gear. They have always been new and packaged when I have bought them as ex demo or used.

Works a treat and is very comfortable.

I have heard very good things about the viper vests as well.

Chris :)

I have a tamrac bag and would recommend looking at the Tamrac Modular Accessory System (MAS) and the Strap Accessorie System (SAS).

Failing that, I would look at getting some PLCE army webbing, either a webbing vest or a yoke and belt kit. Cheap, waterproof and very flexible.

I have the toploader AW zoom2 or something frmo lowepro

attaches nicely to a belt and the diagonal strap secures it better
used it whislt airsofting
when togging I use it to carry lenses and the flash unit if required, and the r-strap takes the camera to my hip
apparently I looked like a photography 'ninja' from one friend but I don't care...got some nice shots of the monkeys we saw on the day

+1 for the Viper vest.
IMHO it beats most of the specialist photography gear
in that, it is better quality and costs far less (£28-£35)
