Belgium Beer !

Purchased £100 worth from there last week for Xmas. I've already sampled a few.

I do like Belgian beers but I've gone mainly British this year. I did buy a bottle of Kwak though, just so I could use my funky carriage glass and stand! I think I've still got a bottle of Kastell in the cupboard from last year.

I find a lot of the Belgian beers a little too strong, I think Daas Ambre was the last I tried.

It has been a while since I went to France, but I used to love looking at the biere section in the hypermarkets, particularly around Christmas when you see (and get to try) all the Biere Noels. Although the Trappist beers are on the strong side, the better ones are incredibly smooth.

Anything from Cantillon!

For the darker styles, has to be Westmalle Dubbel or Rochefort 10.

Or, for a Belgian style ale, Canadian brewer Unibroue's Trois Pistoles.

I run a few cycling challenges over on another website, one of which is "themed" around the "Spring Classics" - the cycle races which are run in often terrible weather... one of the "bonus points" available are for pictures of "post ride refreshments" of a suitable nature... to get into the swing of things, for the Belgian races, a trip to my local imported beer specialist was in order...

excuse the "instagram" shots - at the time it was the only way to get the picture to link into the Strava File for the Ride for that day...

£7.59 for a gottel o' gear?

Yer having a giraffe!

^^^ That's about right. Over the weekend I paid $25.00 for a Horal's Megablend Oude Gueze 2015. The good stuff does cost a little more.

Cantillon 750ml bottles start at around $35.00 now, and go up to around $50.00. A few years back they topped out at $25.00!

I just bought 18 cans of Stella for £12!

I don't have a favourite Belgian beer. There are too many nice ones!

Once a month I meet up with my old college friends for a beer in London. The venue varies, but one of the favourites is The Dovetail in Jerusalem Passage (Clerkenwell). They have over 100 Belgian beers on the menu.

And whenever I go up to the Lake District, I always make sure to stop in at "Open All Hours" in Keswick. You've got to respect a corner shop which stocks over 60 Belgian beers!

I love a nice Belgium beer. Too many to name a favourite one. Best drunk like a fine wine opposed to a binge session. Hmm makes me thirsty.

Spot the odd one out on the shelf ;)

I still have one bottle left of my Samichlaus buy from 2004. It's been ageing well!

Ooood some real faves for me there, the corolus classic, brugge trippel, gouden drak and of course the grimberegn optimo bruno !!!

Some random me outside a beer house in Brugge

Like most booze, often worth starting a session with something decent but after the first 2 or 3, switch to something cheaper.

Some personal favourites...
Rochefort 10
Geuze Girardin (black label)
Rodenbach Grand Cru
Hercules Stout

Assuming you can still stand after 3 Belgian beers - they are often over 10% abv!
Saisons aren't. And my personal fave, Rodenbach Grand Cru (a Flemish red) is c. 6%.
Save the 10% monsters for a nightcap :)
