Yes
This is footage of the massive explosion in the port area of Beirut earlier today. Whatever was inside the building ? Not fireworks, for sure, as one official initially stated. Even if it's seized explosives,as someone suggested, what kind of explosives ? I'm thinking rockets but possibly missiles previously in the hands of Hezbollah maybe ? It's ally, Iran, provides them.

Any thoughts ?

That’s a chemical explosion, not a “explosive“ explosion.
Why does it have to be something sinister like missiles? China had a huge explosion not that long ago and no one suggested anything but a industrial accident.
This is the same, only because it’s Lebanon, it’s all of a sudden missiles and bombs and nukes and god knows what else.

Found this online....

"Director-General of the Lebanese Public Security: What happened [in Beirut] is not a fireworks explosion, but a high-explosive material that was confiscated for years — Al Jazeera

BREAKING — The Beirut explosion caused by highly explosive sodium nitrate confiscated from a ship more than a year ago and were placed in one of the warehouses located in the port — Sources to LBCI"

No, of course it doesn't have to be something sinister but Lebanon isn't China. I was basing my thoughts on hearing that the building housed seized weapons I said that in my post so, in that context it wasn't unreasonable. You didn't need to have been so abrasive. If you recognise it as a chemical explosion, fair enough.I don't have that expertise.

According to the last post it was, indeed a chemical explosion.

It certainly fizzed and popped with minor explosions, very much like fireworks, before the mother load went up. Either way you didn't want to be anywhere near it!

Aoun, in remarks published on the Presidency Twitter account, said it was “unacceptable” that 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored in a warehouse for six years without safety measures and vowed that those responsible would face the “harshest punishments”.

very sad day for the civilians :-(

It’s really sad for it to happen to such a lovely country ,about time ALL the warring factions out there laid down there arms and sat down together to rebuild the whole region .

Catastrophic.
I have a large building project out there currently on hold due to the massive cost of building materials following their economic troubles. How they are going to be able to rebuild an entire city I don't know, it is a massive undertaking at the best of times!

I have a friend out there right now - she said she heard it, even though they're 50 miles away from Beirut.

What’s 2020 going to throw at us next , a war, a asteroid hit, aliens . It’s certainly looking like a film script for end of days ?

I quite like the idea of alien’s, Jeff...:). They’d surely do a better job than humans...

The individual words makes sense, but as a sentence they're nothing but nonsense

its not difficult to understand

Right so you're here with no previous contact with me - or so you'd like it to seem - and your mission is to debunk my form, my format, my style rather than reply to the topic. This is disappointing, you're not here to enjoy the thread but go on, l want you to have the last word, before the iggy curtain falls. Shame on me for even detracting from the thread long enough to write this much.

Btw what are the odds that you're a Cornish person mad at me for dissing Cornwall.

Another ignorant, Whotever.:mad::punch:

Hahahaha it's you again. Well, l dissed Devon too in my earlier post, FWIW. You have to admit Beirut does look like Cornwall now:

- Rocks strewn everywhere
- Poor infrastructure
- Locals angry about stuff
- Locals very proud of their parcel of land
- NO trees

Also l hear Cornwall was actually an offshoot of Phoenicians who sailed from Lebanon to trade so there you have it, i was bang on the money. Google Joseph of Arimathea. :)

Full disclosure: i don't hate Cornwall really. EDIT: Nor Beirut - very sad to hear of the deaths in this beautiful city, no matter their backgrounds.
