Hi,

im just being a bit nosey as im always interested to know what equipment people use.

so, what camera and lenses do you guys use when shooting in a studio situation ?

personally we use a 5D with our 24-105mm L lens

Mamiya/leaf combo with a small assortment of primes. :)

mm ive been thinking about researching medium format digital cameras. dont really know a lot about them and how much of an improvement they are

5D with 24-105mm and any other lens that gets me what I want including a 100mm macro.

Mamiya MF with real fillum!

Have a look at the film forum on here Julien, a fair few of us having a foray!

It's as large a jump, if not bigger than the one from P&S to DLSR.

You don't need a brand spanking £16k's worth of leaf or phase one either. An old Valeo for example will produce stunning images. Just going to 16bit capture is where you get the gains.

ill be keeping a eye on this :suspect:
Will help me chose what to do next with my kit.

Nikon D200 and whatever lens I need. Also use a 40D with a few different Siggy and Canon lenses. This is all for magazine work.

Just because you're in a studio, don't fall into the trap of thinking that you need special kit*–*if it's good enough for use outdoor then it's good enough for the studio. The only gear I've ever used that I can see a major difference in quality was medium format and 5x4 gear. Anything around the 35mm size/standard digital size, the difference in sensor will be negligable.

Use the lens that suits what you want to achieve...

:agree:

I'd like to see anyone get up & down as often as I do but with a medium format shooting an active 2 yr old  - 100 shots in 15 mins is about the norm

The gear needed is largely determined by the end usage and then what you're shooting. Aside from canvasses, I rarely sell a print above 20x16" so any 'better' than my current tool would be a waste

Indeed for a more normal 10x8" print - any have decent 6mp camera would be fine, except that sometimes the image needed is a large crop of the original - so having 6mp left after losing 50% is a real bonus

DiddyDave....... Coooooooome on down. ;)

Seriously, the mamiya 645 is little bigger or heavier than a 1D canon and has a nice balance when wielded too. :)

But does it come with the equivalent of an 18-70 zoom? And lightning fast autofocus?

I fear not, or perhaps not even close - hence no use to me (haven't got enough room to stand well back!)

Oh - and it's a D2Xs not a CANON!!!!!! :gag:

I want to see it though, not a zoom, an 18mm m/f lens....I imagine it to be, a goldfish bowl that can take shots of its own bum....

>But does it come with the equivalent of an 18-70 zoom?
Nope, more like a 28-70 but I prefer to use my feet, backside, head, elbows or whatever else I end up sliding about the floor on. ;)

>And lightning fast autofocus?
and.... nope again. I keep getting told that the AF is not nearly as bad as I say it is but I prefer lightning fast fingers. :D

You know, it's not good to get to stuck in one way of doing things. You might like it if you tried it. ;)

28mm equivalent at its widest eh?

Tell you what... I'll ask if I can knock through into our Business Centre's boiler room and get back to you about trying it !!!

Then I'll super-glue the little beggars to the floor to make sure they are in my plane of focus

:D

DD

Well the zoom is a 50-105 IIRC, the widest I can go is a 35.

If you ever get through to that boiler room, it seems like the least I could do is bring you up a 645 to try. :D:thumbs:

That DD's gonna be a tough nut to crack..

Might need to tag team

???????

Many years ago I nearly bought a 645J (I think it was); then an offer of a Bronica was highly tempting

I'd love a MF honest - just not presently suited to one

Size matters you know! If you ain't got the space, being 'big' ain't ace

:D

Don't want to appear picky but it is spelt LENS.

Really? I thought it was 'lens' - didn't know it had to be in CAPS

Honestly though, we've had the 'spelling' threads loads of times on TP - and they usually end up in arguments - let's not go there again
