Now, I will be the first to admit coppers do my head in. Always waiting for you around the next cornor to get you speeding BUT I would love to be a Traffic Policeman.

Anyone on here one? What training do I have to do? Anything I should be now about being a policeman?

Thanks,
Matt

Treat ALL photographers like decent human beings!! :D

I'm not 100%.. I think you have to have a amount of experience, like 7 years as a 'on the beat' police officer before you can apply to the traffic unit?

Show the police careers advisor you opening post and you will sail through.

Just tell them you've done 2 track days in a Vauxhall Corsa, sympathy alone will get you in.

You have to be fit (properly fit) to get in and you need to have decent qualifications. The ability to write legibly, clearly and concisely is way up at the top of the list. To find out exactly, write to your local force and ask them.

just pop round to HQ its just round the corner from where you live.

Oh one more thing, you need to learn how to go..................................................

neenawneenawneenawneenaw neenawneenawneenawneenawneenaw really loud when you are a traffic copper.

Matt, I tried to have a chat to you about this on facebook before but the chat was playing up.

As an employee of Cheshire Constabulary, I can tell you that there is a recruitment freeze at the moment, so we probably won't be taking on any new officers for at least a year, maybe longer.

Secondly, there is no such thing as a traffic bobby anymore. We do have a roads policing unit, but this is set up to deny criminals the use of the roads, not to concentrate on road traffic issues. They spend 80-90% of their time dealing with criminal matters, not traffic offences.

As far as being a police officer goes, once you have passed the interviews, fitness test and assessment centre, you will do a two year training course (the probationary period), where you will experience a wide variety of roles. Once you have completed your probation, you can then apply for any roles that come up in more specialist units, provided you can show the relevant experience.

It's a good job, and it pays well, but the shifts can be crippling and they do take a lot of crap. Put it this way, when I joined as a staff member I wanted to sign up as a bobby, but after 5 years working on the staff side, I'm happy where I am.

If you want a proper chat about it I'll give you as much help and info as I can mate.

Now Sir I'm PC Matt Sayle and the reason I have stopped you is your speed! You were doing at least 50mph, call yourself a boy racer. You should have been going a lot faster!!!

Now Sir I'm PC Matt Sayle and the reason I have stopped you is your over control! You were doing at least 50mph round that corner without letting your tail go. Go back round the corner and drift properly this time, let plenty of smoke go and I'll get my camera out so I can get some good shots for my website!!!

Amended it for you :D

Have you checked with your parents?

Just to see what their marital status was when you were born? :naughty:

All joking aside, don't think I'd fancy being a policeman nowadays, I think the novelty would wear off years before you got to drive anything more powerful than an Astra Diesel

You joke but I know someone that actually got as far as training when he posted something that was slightly negative on a police cadet forum. They figured out who he was and kicked him out!

He was not a happy chappy :)
