Hi
Went along to my first workshop today, it was really good. First of all we explored our cameras and each talked about our choice of cameras and pros and cons, I have to say I am pleased I decided to go with canon and not anything else! Was expecting a bit more but next week should be more insightful.
Thanks to Tom Philips!

Beginners classes are great and they offer step-by-step guidance (as you probably have already found out). I went to an improvers course and if your tutor is like mine was then they will give you some great assignments for homework. Enjoy it... it is great to learn.

Hi! Happy New Year! Trying to find something like this in Worcester!

HNY! There must be something? Found this one in our local paper it's free and alright

No homework and I am upset!

Damn... Make your own from what you have learnt and get a Flickr page. It gets to practising and then let's you see your progress.

or look at the 52 thread etc in the projects and challenges board - lots for 'homework' there

Incidentally if you want something more uindepth the OCA course is well regarded - theres a big thread on it somewhere (i'll see if i can find it and edit it in) , probably costs a fair bit though

Edit : discussion thread on the OCA course is here https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/t...-photography-course-discussion-part-2.508113/ costs apear to be just over a grand a module..

If you want courses, this trade show does some good free ones and in between lessons you can walk around the trade stands or get a coffee and chat to other photographers, most are very sociable. Its the trade show for the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers. You can join that society, but to to be honest I would not bother until you have shopped around a bit as there are loads of associations (RPS at Bath, several other ones) and what you get from them varies hugely.

However, lots of people go to these roadshows who are not members and the trade stand people appreciate any business, so you are giving something back.

The really big UK trade stand and education show is this one at Birmingham NEC which runs several days and has all sorts of demos and talks

Lots of fun to go to and coming up pretty soon.

If you have a professional photography web site advertising your services and are paid by people to do photography for them, you can register as a professional and not pay the entrance fee.

Erica,

Many years ago I went to an "intermediate" course, and the assignment we were given for the whole course was "The Alphabet", and we had to find the letters of the alphabet in daily life (really basic, but a used tyre as an "O" for instance). It really made me look at what was around me, and by moving around two items may converge to form a letter. Pushes your observational skills and then you need to get all the photography stuff right to make the image. I loved it.

Thanks very much, chris! I'm looking into this:)!
