Hi, looking for some advice to do with a studio set up. I've done some portrait work but nothing involving a backdrop. I have a couple shoots coming up where I could really do with a solid white background so I have been looking at backdrops.

Couple things, needs to be relatively cheap (never good I know) and portable - so muslin, which leads me onto the 'wrinkling' I keep hearing about? Is it that noticeable if lit?

What is the minimum size for single person close up/full body shots? I'm thinking 2m width, not sure about length. I don't want any of the flooring showing. (Example: http://SPAM/cnqxd85 )

For non-regular use, will one of the unbranded eBay stand jobbies do the job?
Same thing for the backdrop cloth, one of the cheaper muslin/cotton ones.

Thanks in advance.

most will advise paper, but really the white BG effect comes from correct lighting, you need to over expose the BG compared to the subject to get the effect you are after.
there are tutorials on here about it, just search.
good luck

Thanks for the reply, i'm pretty comfortable with the lighting; am looking more for advice on backdrops and the sizing.

I would but I can't be transporting 6/9 feet rolls of paper. Really needs to be as portable as possible..

Just make sure you get some good practise at this technique first. Lots of threads on this. It's not easy to do well, particularly for full length figures, and small working area makes things harder still.

Plus one for the photosel.

Depending on your lighting you get white/grey/black.

Ideally I'd like to get a mid grey paper roll when space allows but that's for another day.
