Beginner Looking For "bridge" Camera

I don't really want to spend well over £200 on a camera as it is looking like it is going to be a lot more expensive. The 6500fd will hopefully do me until I think I am ready for DSLRs, if I ever get that far.

I would rather have a shoulder bag that I could then place in my normal rucksack as my rucksack is just fine for carrying things. So I'm just after a shoulder that will fit the camera.

Hi

I'm a beginner in all of this, but I did just purchase the Fuji S8000fd after reading good reviews and like you I was looking for a bridge camera, to compliment my other cameras.

I'm very happy with it so far and can really see the benefits of it. It was part of a package deal with a bag and 2gb memory card from Currys at £240.00.

I have a film SLR camera which is great and although I'd love a Digital SLR I just didnt think my ability would be ready for it yet so the bridge was ideal!

Hope you manage to make a decision.

MM:)

I think I am pretty much set on the 6500, it has some short coming but its got far more plus points and it isn't particularly expensive.

All I'm after now are recommendations of what to carry it in.

I think I am going to go for the S6500, do people agree with choice before I do go and make the plunge.

Can anyone recommend something for me to keep it in, some sort of shoulder bag?

If you have decided that you don't want to spend as much money as a dSLR and lenses cost then I think the 6500 is a good choice. As long as you are aware of its limitations and don't expect slr performance. If you want to spend more in the future you can always sell it but just be aware that digicams do devalue quickly.

I spent quite a while looking for a bag and didn't find a lowe pro one that fitted very well. I ended up getting one of these from currys,

http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/sto...ku=519116&category_oid=-31727&fm=10&sm=6&tm=0

Perfect fit for the 6500 and seems better made than the lowe pro and is cheaper :woot: Only problem is whether you think it looks like a handbag or not

btw, I have seen someone advertising a 2nd hand 6500 for 120 inc postage and a 1gb card on the ocuk forum.

Its a birthday pressie so I'm interested in getting one new :D (very materialistic) but its only £150 new.

I think I'm looking for a slightly more compact bag than that one, I'm quite drawn to the Lowepro Apex. But anyone got other suggestions?

It would be good if someone can recommend some decent rechargeable batteries and a charger to go with that.

Thanks

In the end I went and ordered a Crumpler Pretty Boy L in Black and Orange and a 2GB XD Card. I know the Crumpler's more expensive but it looks good. Does anyone know what thedigitalcamerashop are like?

I have the s9600..

Good points... (off the top of my head)
The zoom.. about 300mm
Full manual settings and presets.
Can shoot RAW
The macro.. has super macro (focal length 10mm)
Wide angled lens..

So i mean... has all these lenses in one which in theory... is way cheaper than buying a DSLR entry level... and a zoom lens... and a wide angle... and a macro...

Bad point..
Ok there is only one for me... The noise..
The image quality really needs improving. Nothing really seems THAT sharp and getting a very shallow depth of field at a distance is impossible!

Overall it has a lot of nice features and is very nice in hand.
Have a look at a few of my pix on here. I cant afford a DSLR and all those lenses yet.. so the s9600 is doing me proud :)
I wouldnt get a small compact :(

does that help?

batteries.....
buy 8 energizers (cant remember details... abouth 2500 nimh or summat?) with a charger...
that way you are always fully loaded and they last for ages!

i used a Fuji S9500 for a while, excellent bridge camera. has been superseeded now but any of the finepix range around the S6500/S9600 style would lead you the right way

I got my 6500fd today, I haven't really taken any photos with it yet but I'm learning all the different settings that I have so hopefully it will be nice tomorrow for me to go out an try it out. Although my bag hasn't arrived yet.

I have the old Sony H1....you cant beat having image stablising with the focal length of a bridge. Panasonics are good as well
