Hello everone.

I am very new to photography and i have a CANON EOS 1100D.
It was a gift and didnt have a lens so i purchased a couple from a photography shop on Ebay.
Please give me any info you can be bothered to give me to get a decent picture from my camera.I love wildlife and the countryside so would like to get some nice pics from there.Ive been reading the manual and other info but i cant get the lenses to focus or do anything in Auto mode. And i wouldnt even attempt Manual mode.
So tell me what i do instead of my wife telling me to point and shoot ???he he

Thanks

If you look at the tutorial section towards the bottom of this forum, there are some really good posts, one in particular talks you through the basics - its helped me no end!

I am starting to use manual for the shots where I can stop think and retake a few times to get it right, but its not really that daunting once you start.

There are some semi manual modes (shutter priority - tv, and aperture priority -av) this allows you to control either the shutter or aperture and the rest is done by the camera which is a great place to start. Tv is good for when you need to spec a fast shutter speed (like moving objects) and av is good for most of the other times when you want to control the depth of focus.

Hello Lewis

Welcome to TP.

Check on the body of the lenses for a switch labelled AF/MF for autofocus/manualfocus. Obviously ensure its on AF.

It is possible the focus operation has been removed from the typical location (half-press on the shutter button) by modifying a custom function in the camera menu. If the camera is brand new then this is least likely unless you have been tinkering in the menus ;)

i have the same camera, and on full auto it should be as easy as pushing the button to get it focus. if you change it to tv mode or the others you can choose where it focuses like the middle or top, bottom, left, right and so on or you can pop it into live mode and zoom in so you can really we if its in focus or not hope this helps
