Bed Frame Purchase Advice

I need to buy a new bed and I know the mattress element is down to personal choice. However any tips or advice on buying the frame much appreciated. I'd rather spend a bit more to get something that lasts rather than a frame that starts to creak and wobble after a couple of years
 
Tempur. They are not cheap, but sometimes they sell end of line at a discount.
 
You need to look at the complete bed. The type of frame will affect how the mattress feels - a flat platform will make the matress feel firmer whilst sprung slats will be less firm.
Dreams or other specialists are worth a visit - you can compare mattresses across different frames
 
I've found those common wooden slats can often be quite cheap quality wood and can break easy if you are anything but gentle when dropping onto the bed. They can pop out of those plastic adapters easily as well.

In hindsight, I'd rather have slats that screw down, or go with a divan style so I can launch myself onto the bed with confidence.

Being of "generous" proportions, I've got 2x1 PSE with 3" gaps and a topper of 3mm hardboard rather than skinny slats. Used in Dad's old bed frame which has multiple screws and bolts holding it together. No creaking or wobbliness.
 
We have several beds from a Derbyshire company called Indigo Furniture that sadly went bust during Covid, but another local firm there took over their designs etc and still produce them.

Not to everyone's taste I'm sure but these are really solid furniture made of waxed pine, with substantial wooden slats under the mattress. The slats are 4x1" and there are 12 (I think) on the bedfrsame.
They are good for those wanting a fairly firm bed, although much of that depends on the mattress. All our mattresses are rather substantial, coil in the main part with a couple of inches of memory foam on top.

Good quality Divan style bed is my personal preference. The extra ground clearance is great for bedroom acrobatics :cool:

I've been considering putting some plywood or hardboard down on top of the slat, but a little worried it could make the bed too hard? The mattress is a very good high count pocket sprung type, but let down I fear by the bedframe.

May I ask what makes a good quality divan ? Anything I need to look out for ?

Try the mattress straight on the floor to see if it's soft enough for you. I prefer a firm bed to an over soft one.
