Because, It's All About Light, Isn't it?

For the Images of England project we were allowed just one defining image per building. That's not one selected from 500, but one shot (on film) and then move onto the next target. While not aiming to use the Golden Hour, a blanket of cloud wasn't wanted and nor was deep shadow, so keeping a diary of local weather and light conditions was useful.

50% Luck,
25% Watching the weather,
24% Scouting good locations
1% Photographic skill in my case.

missed one Gandhi .... instinct. Some would call it luck but i know a landscape photographer and he says its luck but he must be luckiest person ever, to many to be just lucky.

I agree with Ali above, I remember the question 'what do you like to shoot' and to me its has no importance, I have my likes and dislikes but overall its the light and colours that get my attention.

Its not just low sunlight, or sunrises and sunsets or morning mist, or anything directly ..its just at certain times of the day, any time on any day, the light suddenly brigs things to life definition wise, commonly its as the sun rises or falls but also cloud formations, dark skys behind and sunlight in front, dappled light, shifting light etc etc... all these effects cause subjects and scenes to pop and show there tones more readily.

Most of my personal photography is documentary street photography. I'm pretty passionate about it. I take what I can get, but on occasion, I get that image that works so well because of the light.
