Can the beauty dish be used for, say a cannon 580 or 430 ex ii as well as for a studio strobe? Does one need to have a different attachment or is there one that will adapt to both?

I have a couple of adapters that allow Speedlites to be used with all manner of Bowens compatible accessories, including a beauty dish. I bought mine from Bessel on eBay. Right now I can't find any on sale but there is one available with a snoot included here....

Here's a completed listing - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bowens-S-Fit-...graphy_StudioEquipment_RL&hash=item3a603591fe

Here is one of the bare adapters, stuck on a lightstand and with an RF-602 wireless receiver already in place....

Although this picture does not show the setup very well, here is a beauty dish mated with a Speedlite. You can see the RF-602 sticking out at the base of the barely visible flashgun....

Here's a view of the room. As you can see, no monoblocs in sight.....

Hi Tim,

thanks for that info and the photos, which are very clear. I have a couple of speedlights and a brolly, but am looking to improve my lighting equipment following a shoot with my grand daughter this week. The results have encouraged me to keep moving forward and I am involved in another group shoot this Sunday. I think the beauty dish is on the list. Is that a 70cm in the photo or larger.

malcolm I think you might find it easier to learn how stuff works before hitting some heavy cash on new mods
