BBC4, D:Day Newsnight special

i saw some during the day, i wonder actualy if we shiould all have watched it
 
I watched it and am currently reading Antony Beevor's book - D-Day.
Emotionally overwhelming.
 
I missed most of it, but it's on again on the 9th I think, so I'll record that.
 
Not to diminish them, but the programmes date back to 1994 and 1984. There was also the Timewatch - Bloody Omaha programme presented by some Top Gear fella, shown in January and repeated recently.

Back in `94, veterans participated in the parachute drops, Gawdluvum. My grandmother's first husband was awarded a posthumous MC for taking out a machine gun emplacement at Arnhem.

It's all good stuff - I recognised a few of the vets at Arromanches from when I photographed the 60th Anniversary when I was working with the Army MNT at HQ Land...
Good to see they're still laughing about the weather...lol

Good speech by Richard Dannatt as well, I thought...dreadful one by the Frog PM, though Gordon Brown wasn't as cringe-makingly smarmy as he usually is...the 'auld-langs eyne' bit was close though...
