How,if its decided by a 'live' telephone vote, does Andy Murray get presented with the trophy immediately the result is announced whilst he is in Florida ? did the Beeb 'know' the result prior? Congrats to him for winning it (although IMHO A.P. McCoy deserved it more).

I suspect if all the nominees were unable to attend, replica trophies, camera crews and presenters would have been sent out to everyone.

Murray won by miles, but it was fairly close for all the others.

Murray 401,470
Halfpenny 65,913
McCoy 57,854
Farah 51,945
Ainslie 48,140
Froome 37,343
Cockroft: 26,151
Ohuruogu: 13,179
Rose: 9,833
Bell: 5,626

Not sure how Murray won this with it being call Sports "Personality" of the Year.......... would that not indicate you need to have a personality to win it?

Thats what I thought !

I'm no lover of horse racing, but AP McCoy should have won it hands down.......with a bit of luck sour-face won't be eligible after the referendum, if he gets nominated again........

I don't think being a previous winner disqualifies one from winning again but it's not that long ago that Tony McC was SPOTY. Pretty sure that having a personality isn't a prerequisite either - didn't Nigel Mansell win it once?

I'll add my congratulations to AM for his win.

Andy Murray does have a personality, he just comes across as introverted and a bit dour on tv. A friend of mind worked for a sportswear company that sponsored him and met him quite a few times. She said he was a really nice guy and has a self deprecating sense of humour, nothing like some of the other prima donnas sports people she's had to deal with.

People said exactly the same thing when Mansell won it.

Well deserved.

I read that he deliberately says nothing interesting to the press after he got taken to pieces by the media after cracking his England joke when he was a teenager.

Deserved winner.

After the Scottish independence vote next year, it will probably be the last time a Jock will be eligible to win...

I didn`t.

Leave the guy be, so he does not like talking to the press,so what, perfectly understandable.

He is a damned good tennis player. End of.

You won't get rid of us that easily you Engerlish schweinhund (You started with the name-calling :p).

To my mind it was astonishing that Ben Ainslie came so far back.

He's won medals at 5 consecutive Olympics (4 golds at the last 4) and led an America's Cup team to a 9-8 victory after being 8-1 down.

Love the irony and sarcasm there.

At least he is a real winner, unlike the royals "OK yah, it was all very enjoyable, when the horse was dancing, but did my bum look big?"
Andy Murray is the best tennis player the UK has ever had.
