Battle lines are drawn

When the mayhem subsided, this cat trotted out with the biggest rat I've ever seen clamped in its jaws.

It was huuuge.
Silly question but are you sure it wasn't a Coypu,
(Supposedly culled to extinction some years ago in the UK (Yeah right ;) )
They look a bit like rats but can grow to a meter !

Hmm, no I'm not sure.

This was mid to late 70s. I reckon it was about a foot long.
Actually they look more like giant bank voles than rats,
but its amazing how many calls I get for "bank voles" ;)
The dead give away with Coypu is that the have large orange teeth.
They are still quite prevent in France, but never stray too far from water.

Don't remember seeing its teeth but, unless rats do grow to a foot long, it's sounding like a good contender.

Adult Coypu are a good two feet (50-60 Cm) Plus tail 30-40Cm.

As above all the years I've been doing this I've never seen a "Super rat"
and I'm sure that a lot of the old tales are from Coypu sightings.

As above they were culled to extinction some years ago in the UK, 20 / 25 years ago IIRC.
But there have also been many confirmed & reliable sightings, since the cull.
So they are still about in the UK too.

There are some pictures of very large (and I do mean very large) rats here, as well as coypu and other creatures.

Many years ago, we had rats in our cellar, despite me thinking that nothing could get in. One managed to knaw through the floorboards and get behind the kitchen cupboards, which is when I really had enough of them. A combination of new cellar door, refurbished kitchen tiled wall to wall, copious amounts of poison, along with a couple of kills with the air rifle seemed to get rid of them.

Like it, although I was expecting a cat!!!
