I have a D700 and want a battery grip for it. I cant really justify the price of the Nikon one as I will only use the grip occasionally. On Ebay you can get grips from Poland for bout £60. Should I get one, will it be electrically safe?

Hi, I faced the same myself when I wanted one for my 400D, I purchased one off Ebay from Hong Kong for about that price, and that included 2 batteries and a spare cartridge which took six AA batteries. Check out the feedback and go with what your pocket stretches to :)
Hope this helps

I personal would have the correct Grip for the correct camera, Simply because of the storys you hear when 3rd party grips mess up camera's and there is nothing the manufactuer can do because of the 3rd party grip.

Why spend £1700 on a body, then skimp on the accessories?

I personally think you're best getting the Nikon grip...

Agree with the above you're better off getting something that is produced by your camera manufactor instead of a cheap one that could possibly go wrong and screw up your camera

I only paid £250 for my 20D and would not buy a cheap one from HK instead i spent 50% of my camera value on a BG-E4n grip so if i upgrade to a 40D it'll compliment the weather proofing

Well looking at the OP. I came to the conclusion that icnoble is like myself, not a Pro Tog, no disrespect icnoble. If he was a pro the chances are he would not be asking that question. Maybe I am wrong, would somebody in photography as a career think twice about buying a cheap item for there kit? This is the only reason I suggested one from Ebay, if it was me the aprox £100 saving could go on some other useful kit :)

I'd go for the official one myself, although it is a bit pricey. I reviewed the grip on my blog recently actually so have a read and see if it helps sway you one way or the other :)
