Does anyone have any comments on the more sophisticated chargers that discharge, condition, recharge and monitor the cells individually? I've only used the free chargers that come with packs of batteries, and they seem expensive. Are they worth it?
 
What sort of battery are they? Cycling batteries is really a thing of the past for the most part as battery technology has moved on. Most lithium batteries as used in most modern cameras don't require any such thing and fully discharging them would actually damage them. The camera will normally turn it self off before the battery goes fully flat to protect the battery.

Eneloops and Hybrios - I should have mentioned this. I use the manufacturers charger for the camera battery.
 
I use eneloops from 7dayshop.com and just use an ordinary charger (also bought from 7day) they bhave been recharged far more than the stated number and still going strong!
Cannot see the point in buying one of the all singing/dancing chargers!
 
Technoline BL700

I have one of these (not cheap though at £27) and it's awesome. Got mine next day too. Charges at up to 1800mah, discharges, refreshes and tests (charges and discharges until the batteries are at their optimum)

I also got an in car charger from them for emergencies, although with 9 sets of rechargable AA's I'm hoping that wont happen!

I can also recommend the Technoline BL700. It does all of the above and I would say it is well worth the £27. There is also a Technoline BC900 for £42 which is a bit more powerful and comes with some batteries.
 
I have the Powerex Maha C9000 - very similar to the Technoline BL700 in the way it assesses then discharge, refresh, discharge and then charge.

I like the analysing part of it :geek: as i guess I like to make sure the batteries (Eneloops in my case) are well matched as a pack of 4 and the capacity is exactly as rated.
