Hi Folks,

Sorry to bother you all but I'm just after a little bit of advice.
I know its probably an annoying Q to you all but, I'd rather ask the people in the know than just go out and do ...... :)

I'm wondering if third party batteries are OK and if so, what's the best one/best place to buy??

I have a Canon 50D and 400D both with genuine Canon batteries. I'm looking for some spares but could do with some cheaper options!!

Also, are third party grips any good?? (just for the 50D as I have a Canon grip on my 400D)

Many thanks in advance for your recommendations

Charlie

Look on the web for MeiKe grips, there's a place that has an English flag but they are in Scotland. I use a grip on my 5D2 made by them and I genuinly think it's better than the Canon one.

As for BP511 batteries try 7dayshop.com they usually do them and there's nothing wrong with them.

I bought 2 batteries a few weeks ago for the 50D from 7day shop. About £11 each I think. Seemed to do the job. Im probably going to sell them soon actually as I probably wont include them with the 50D when it goes on ebay.

As long as you know the right sellers on ebay it's fine, if you don't then 7dayshop is the best bet.

It depends on the kind of battery. If it is a special info lithium type then I would only get an original. If it is a normal kind then 3rd party should be fine. I've found the 7dayshop ones better than the originals sometimes!

Third party batteries can be fine, but I do think it matters where you get them from.
7dayshop are OK, as are these guys link
I've bought third party batteries for 20D, 30D, 1D mkIIN, without seeing any difference at all in performance from the OEM ones, and they were an awful lot cheaper.
When it got to the 1D MKIII, the original gave me so many shots that I just didn't need a spare.

Go for a third party make that you've heard of, or at least a reputable supplier and you're probably good.
