Batteries for my 580...

I have loads of re-chargable batteries, but none of them are really that useful with the 580 and the flash can't cycle very quickly. Duracells work well, but that's not a very economical solution Do any of you have a recommendation for which batteries to buy? (it's a shame they dont just use camera batteries!).

If you're after AA size Duracell also make rechargeables - full charge takes under 1 hr & they last 6 hrs / 600 flashes in my SB800. Argos had a good deal last time I looked.

Get a couple of sets of AA rechargables from Ebay or 7dayshop etc.

Make sure that they are 2700-3000ma.

you need the external battery pack from canon - so you run your flash from 10 batteries, not 4 - or if you have the cash the quantum turbo pack - so you run the flash from a high voltage car battery (well nearly!!)

The external pack is wonderful, but probably not something that you could justify if you don't use your flash a heck of a lot. I've just bought another couple of sets of 2800mAh batteries from 7Day shop - I find them extremely good and they happily last through a full speedway meeting either in my flashgun or in the battery pack, even when the weather is really cold and nasty!
