I work as a press photographer and obviously have to use my flash regularly and require it to be reliable. At the minute I get a flash fall off on my sb800 after about 3 flashes which is useless really. Looking for the best option for regular + powerful flash use. So far been recommended Duracell Procell off ebay (not rechargeable) or eneloops (rechargeable but not powerful enough?).

What about an external battery pack?

Something like the Quantum, perhaps.

A quantum would be perfect but I don't have £400 to spare on one at the minute!

If you want rechargeables which wont drop off quickly get eneloops, if you are looking at disposables then I would recomend Duracell only, procells or any of the + or ultra range.

On a side note we have to use the procells or + in paintball equipment as you want the same output at the end of the day as the beginning and they always do the job. (Cant use rechargeables as the starting voltage is too low but absolutely fine for flashes)

Second vote for eneloops, they are the god of the nimh world, use them in my SB600 and SB800 :)

I use eneloops in my flash guns and find them to retain power and work well.

The Pixel External battery packs, with a couple of sets of either Eneloops, or the 7dayshop clones should do the do

I'd also recommend eneloops. I have created sets of 4 batteries, all colour coded so that the batteries in each set stay together, get used at the same rate, and recharged together. Not sure if it matters but thought I should start caring for my batteries if I expect them to be reliable!

GP Recyko and Uniross Hybrio are the same as Eneloops, just in case you're having trouble finding the Eneloops cheaply (I use the Uniross cells from www.batterylogic.co.uk)

I think Sanyo have a cell called the "Superlattice" too, all the same stuff. Just look for "Low discharge" NimH

Eneloops or the 7-day shop own-brand equivilents (cheaper, regular multipack deals on the website).

My strobist bag contains four SB600 meanwhile and they are on a strict eneloop "diet" for about a year now. - Highly recommended!
