Hi!

I have some new yongnuo 560iii's...

How long roughly do they last before needing to replace batteries? Ie, do they eat them quickly?

What's your view/experience of rechargeable batteries in speedlights? I currently have some duracell single use batteries inserted but I have some rechargeable batteries with a view to saving some money, especially if they are hungry devices, but perhaps someone with experience can advise whether this is worthwhile or not before I buy a new charger :)

Always use rechargeables, if your shooting is sporadic use the newer type that don't discharge as much whilst stored. I use 7dayshop good to go, other brands are available.

If you're after shorter recycle times, get some external battery packs.

That would depend on the power of each flash which can vary greatly and the batteries used.

I personally always use re-chargables and more than one set.

If you go this route i would suggest Eneloops and a good charger (Not a fast charger)
Linked below for ref what i use.

Eneloop 2450 mAh

Eneloop 1900 mAh

AccuPower Charger

Use these to store the Batteries in.

Eneloop cases

Or Phils advice as i can't type as fast lol

Thanks both!
I wasn't sure if rechargeable were a taboo subject lol, I wasn't sure if they might have less power or something. But that suits me perfectly as I can keep a few sets ready when I'm out and about (3 speedlights and a transmitter is a hefty 14 batteries lol!)
Recycle times are no problem it'll be minutes between shots I'd imagine rather than seconds. I'll check out these eneloops I currently just have a selection of maplins and Sony batteries lol!

Thanks again all, just got some from 7dayshop as they did a nice 16 battery bundle, 2 of them should do me good :) just need source a decent charger :)

Plus 1 for me, the charger is brilliant. My Eneloops (Like Phil I also use the 7day ready to go) all (excluding the charger) were purchased from 7day too.

I use the 7Dayshop rechageables, and this charger,http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fast-Smar...d_Vision_Battery_Chargers&hash=item5648b7319b,
charger can also be run off your car battery, handy if you are in the field.
So you recommend this charger?
In car charging would be very useful :)
I'm at a loss for what to go for charger wise I don't really know enough about them, just want something good quality that will look after the batteries, slow charging doesn't bother me which I believe from what I read above is better for batteries?

I have used this charger for a couple of years now, with no problems, I use AA batteries for more than just Flash guns, my battery stock is all about 2 years old, never had any go down, only problem is that they dont supply a car lead, had to get that from Maplins.

I thought the enloops benefitted from a really slow charge as supplied by the one you buy with the batteries?

Don't get a 4 way charger, mine drives me nuts, lol 8 way +

Do you mean as in how many it charges?
If yes then don't worry I've bought that 8 one, needing 28 batteries there was no way I was having a 4 haha ;)
But please don't tell me you can get chargers that charge more than 8?! :-0

8 is about the max you will get without getting specilaized chargers.
I think 8+ meant at least 8 so your good..

Yes, that's what I meant :)

All those flippin' batteries was one of the lower-down-the-list reasons I went for strobes. One battery pack that plugs in the mains overnight and lasts all day long or off the mains, of course :)

Noooo that would have been amazing lol, a full setup in each charge lol!
Never mind :)
In other news tho both batteries and the 8 piece charger arrived earlier in the week, so far the batteries have had a good battering in the speedlights and still going strong and the charger charged some of my maplin batteries for the mac mouse pad and I'm very happy lol so thanks everyone for the input!!

all of the above
rechargables everytime.
I use eneloops sometimes but then ebay for the rest maxcell 3800mAh ones, are good
Then vapextech do batteries 2900 mHa and a small charger for 8 batteries which is a bargain I think.
rapid, small, digital readout.
I also use an external battery pack too.
