Ok, so Iv just uploaded all my photos from over the xmas period onto my Mac,
Now obviously a lot of these will be for the bin, and the rest will need sorted out and named before I even begin to think about which ones to carry forward into photoshop.

Whats the quickest and most painless method of getting a good sized preview/display of your images, and being easy to delete/rename the image?

iPhoto any good for this? Iv had a mac for 2 years now, but never had the need to open up iPhoto..

Any advice welcomed,

Bridge. It is designed to do exactly that as a front end for Photoshop.
 
Ah ok, havn't ventured into bridge yet either.
Will go have a play with it now,

Ok got bridge working ok, dont think im getting the best out of it ***, still seems to be taking ages!

I noticed one thing though, that all my images are coming up with a name in the IPTC core section, now I think this may be the previous owner. How do I change this setting on the camera?
 
Simple things are often missed.

Don't know about renaming, but for the culling, you can use Preview. Simply open all your images together in preview and the ones you don't like, right click and Move to Trash. This also deletes the source file. Also useful to compare different versions of the same pic.

I don't know what version of OS X you use but this works on SL. Not sure if this was available on Leopard.
 
Ah ok, just noticed that I can use the preview for deleting, shame you can't rename there also..
 
Bridge does take time to load images as it renders a preview. That's what's slowing things down I suspect. Bridge will let you rename individual images or do batch renames. Possibly your best option is to sort the wheat from the chaff in preview then import into Bridge, for sorting and cataloguing

So what system did you settle on finally? Just curious... :)
 
Just using bridge now, didn't know you could switch between full screen and preview so quick, so if I need to decide which shot to keep from a few similars, I found this easy to decide on which ones to bin.

Sure theres more efficient ways of doing it, but this will do me for now :)
