Basically, after a football match I have to resize about 80 photos. They're varying sizes initially but after resizing I always have the longest side set to 750.

Now, If try to do a batch process in Digital Photo, it just doesn't work - I end up with half images etc. At the moment I individually resize each shot, I'd just like to cut down my workload.

I do have CS4, but frankly get lost away from the standard editing and layers etc!

So the question is, is there something out there, that will batch process a resize of un-uniform
images?

I can't be certain but Phatch http://photobatch.stani.be/download/index.html is fairly comprehensive. Options to enter max canvas size, restrain/unrestrain aspect etc. I mainly use it to re-size for the web and rename at the same time. It (on Linux, anyway) creates a folder in which it puts the modified files, plus you can save the script. Mine's imaginatively called WebSize :p
Oh and it's got a GUI.
(needs Python installing for Windows, info is on the web-site)

For this a batch process in PS CS is easy, look up 'fit image' in file automate.
But if you dont want to get a handle on photoshop, I used to do my resizing in a lighter weight app, Irfanview I think.

Canon DPP will do it no problem at all.

I regularly batch convert to a set size as your requrie.

There is no need to buy or download anything else.

So what size do you actually want to end up with? and why are they varying sizes initially?

I presume your cropping each photo, so they are all different sizes, then you want to output them to a 750px size.

Well in Canon Digital Photo Professional (something you already have) just select the images and Batch Process
In the resize box type in your required size (750) and make sure the Lock Aspect ratio is selected.

If the first images in your list is in landscape then you want a width of 750, and obviously if its a portrait then you want a height of 750, after that DPP will sort it out and give you a longest size of 750 no mater which orientation the rest of your batch is.

That's basically it. The way I work is that I have the original file, I then edit it - cropping it in the process but leave it unsharpened incase I ever need a different size, and finally I resize a batch for web use and sharpen those accordingly.

It's the resizing that takes a fair bit of time, I'll have tried via DPP but never got it to work, maybe I'm doing it wrong!

I'll check out all the other suggestions too. Cheers!

Your working more or less the way I do, and should have no problems with DPP if you do as above.

use the scripts from the file menu, then image processor

set the source and destination folders

set the resize to the max dimenions you want

then select run

this will keep the ratios the same but set the image to a max height or width

Cheers Steve

I use Irfanview for this. Very quick, efficient and free!
