How would one go about getting onto bass rock for a day to take photos of the wildlife?

You used to be able to get a boat which ran from N. berwick harbour and they'd drop you off for acouple of hours then pick you up but they stopped doing this a couple of years ago. Not sure if they've started letting you get off again.

Check out http://www.seabird.org/boat-trips.asp
It tells you how to go on their photography trips.
Edinburgh Gary is right about the scene there and it really stinks but would be great for photography. Hope it works out for you.

I'd make sure you've got a cover over your camera / lens and a filter on the end, birdsh*t is corrosive and you'll be a cracking target :)

First I think you'll need to save up, 80 quid is quite a expensive day out and for getting crapped on into the bargain. Also I've heard depend on the time of year on the rock they will dive bomb you too. Seen a good tip on tv last week about St Kilda, they wear tea cosy's on their head to protect them from some of the birds, also keeps the old napper warm too. Imagine the fun getting your photo taken with these on.

Scottish Sea Bird centre, £100, book a long way in advance, 10 or 12 to a trawler.
