Searched here.. Searched online... so many different versions :(

Whats the best "go pro" to take video and pull pictures from the video.

While videoing with the intent to pull the best pics.. How long can I video for (battery or card limitations)

PS I do not want any other make/clone thanks :)

I've got a hero black 3 so can only comment on that but if you are intending on pulling stills you really want to look at the higher end models i.e the black or silver.

Battery wise, and I haven't used it for a while, I think I was getting around 45 mins - 1 hr but that was in the cold North Sea while kitesurfing.

Hth

I probably should have added.. would be to catch sports action so quick moving subjects... probably a consideration :)

I don't think you can 'harvest' good quality images from the video. I have never tried but might have a go later tonight and report back. The stills on their own are ok

thats dissapointing then :(

I'll upload a pic from a kitesurfing video when I'm at my laptop and you'll be able to see the quality of the stills taken from video. The camera is designed for action and if you buy a new one you'll be able to film 4K so the stills will be of a pretty high quality.

What will you be filming?

Is your example from a 4k ?

Football. from behind the goals or just to the side..

Thanks :)

Below are two examples.

It was shot on a hero black 3 in 1080p, it isn't going to compare to your average DSLR but its not too bad. these are direct from the camera as well with no pp

Only problem you will experience is distance from subject, with the angle of the lens everything can look very small / distant. To give you an idea In the pics above my gopro was on the front of my board no more than 12" from my foot.

thanks steve.. yes am aware of the wide angle which is why perfect for behind goals :) Its stopped the action OK ... would presume then 4k video would stop it even better ?

Surely it depends on the fps? ???

Sorry this is exactly it but had a senior moment and didn't mention it, although, you don't need to shoot as fast as you think to stop the action, and yes, in 4k you would get a better image although the silver only shoots at a max of 15fps while the black shoots at 30.

in 1080p you can get upto 120 and 60 fps (black / silver) which would capture what you need I'm not sure what speed I was shooting in on the above pics

I have a 3+ and a 4 silver, I'll take a small clip tomorrow at the various fps in daylight and see what the stills look like

The Hero 4 Black is the top of the range. You can get it for under £300 via websites such as Sports Pursuit. A single battery will last up to 90 minutes in my experience, but it varies depending on your settings. You can double that with a battery back pack. In terms of memory cards, a 64GB will take hours of footage, again varying depending on settings. I'm not sure if they're compatible with 128GB cards.

Juts been on sports pursuit... £284 is a massive saving from the £400+ on the gopro website :) Thanks for that

I have a Hero Black 4, and quite honestly it's just brilliant...

I tried this the next day and couldn't find this thread to report back..............I think there are two threads on the same topic.
Anyway, I tried filming small birds to and from the bird feeder and the best results were 720p at 120 fps. Video is great but the quality of the pulled stills are poor. Stills taken in photo mode are great.

Pretty much come to the conclusion that its not going to work for what I wanted.... thanks anyways :)
