I realy want to get into photography as i am agoraphobic and hope it will tempt me to get out, I only have a 8mp camera would i be able to take good shots with that or do i need one of them all singing all dancing huge cameras that you all seem to have?
I can't realy afford one at the moment though lol

8mp is massive image size wise, so dont worry bout that, you already have the most important part of the process and thats you. plus you wont get pestered taking shots in public on a p&s, so get out there take some pics, post them up and people will give you some advice on making them better:thumbs:

what is agoraphobic?

I am assuming from your opening remark you have an 8MP compact.

It is the photographer that makes great images the camera is only a tool, so go see what you can do.

Not withstanding that those "all singing all dancing huge cameras " you refer to do not have to cost the earth and can increase the versatility of your photography.

Be careful though buying one can lead to selling your soul to get the next bit of kit.

Hope the photography can help your agrophobia.

Fear of open spaces I believe :)

might be worth putting your details in the find a tog buddy bit, helps to have someone with you when you do it, misery loves company and all that:thumbs:

By far the best photographs I have taken so far are with my 3MP compact! I now have a lovely DSLR but I have so much to learn that it will be quite some time before I start to produce better photos than I did with the compact. However, hopefully once I do learn it the photos will have the potential to be much better.
I'd start with the compact and see how you enjoy it and get on. Once you start to find the limitations of that camera then start to look for a DSLR and lenses that enable you to do the things you have found that you can't do with the compact.
I hope that made some sense!

Thanks for all your replies.
Yes agoraphobia is fear of open spaces, or public places, think i'm going to have to read through this forum more to get some tips as when i take photos it looks unplanned and muddled if that makes sense.

Most of mine look unplanned and muddled too. Give it a go and it will get more rewarding. I have to take 25 bad pics to get a good one. I want to take 25 good ones before I get a bad one. Long way to go.

This is a friendly forum where people will go out of their way to be helpful. Ask away.

Chris :)
