Firstly, quick apology, its dam near impossible to reply to each one of you on the phone, although I would really like to, so please forgive that omission.
It was the Yorkshire Air Ambulance that airlifted me to Airedale Hospital, they very skilfully landed on the moor very close to where I fell, tended to me where I lay in a ditch, then with the help of my 3 walking buddies and a couple more who were passing on the same path, lifted me out and carried me to the chopper. After a short flight, they landed in a field near the hospital then trollied me to the ambulance. Then just to make it even more exciting, the ambulance got stuck as it was turning round and had to be pulled out with a tractor! I had my mapping/gps/track record on all the time so when I get chance I can tell you exactly where the helipad is.
The new series of Helicopter Heroes starts in October, and the producer informed me I will be on that series. Originally it was to be next march, but changed it
Right, update time. No breakfast today, not even a cuppa! Hopefully will get my op today and then some sleep! Got two snorers on the ward and even with earplugs in didn't get much last night. Still got indigestion, even after some gaviscon. Sun is shining through the window now though not much of a view! Still, the odd Maggie comes and looks in for a laugh.
Looking forward to visiting this afternoon and family fussing over me! Right, time for painkillers again, thanks for all your wellwishes TPers, appreciate all of it. Will be back later. (i hope!)

Hope op goes well and recovery is quick and, relatively, painless.

You have my commisserations as I'm just getting over a knee replacement. I was lucky not to get any snorers - was given a private room.

hahaha. I had heard stories of the ambulances getting stuck in the field, but never been able to confirm it - until now :-)

could be the painkillers causing the indigestion, especially if they are diclofenic type ones. maybe they could give you different ones. fingers crossed for your op :)
 
I'm waiting to see what settings Baz used to get the right amount of rotor blur from inside the helicopter and to cope with the vibration. Are you going to PP the pics and show them when you get out? :D

Seriously though, damn bad luck, it sounds very painful, I do hope your home soon and make a quick and full recovery, best of wishes to you :thumbs:

Sory folks, had op last night ok, but pain bad and on chemically enhanced painkillers so bit ggroggy at the mo (sorry Marcel) ill b back.
 
Well I was but they moved me to another ward last night at ten o'clock! No idea why! Had a crap night, virtual no sleep. Still, breakfast and painkillers to look forward to! Whoopee.

Back home in my lovely wifes care!
I cannot tell you how good it feels, sitting in my own chair, lying in my own bed, simple things that you take for granted under normal circumstances. Leg hurts like mad once the painkillers being used as wear off, and i have terrible backache and my tummy thinks its being used as a leather football (filled with wind and kicked about).
First of many thanks goes to the Helicopter Heroes, fantastic, profesional and caring people who go about their everyday jobs as though it was normal to land on unstable, grit and heather Yorkshire moorland and treat someone who is in agony and in need of medical care, lying in a ditch! Just Incredible!
I have some pics somewhere? that i will post as soon as i can, got to look at my poor bashed about camera's first, and i am not looking forward to that.
Second thanks go to Airdale Hospital for putting my leg straight:-) and starting me off on the road to recovery. All the lovely Nurses on wards 9 & 10 for being so kind and cheering us up and putting up with the hassle from some patients.
Third is my family for all the support they have given over the last 7 days, running to and from Manchester and Steeton, not been easy I know.
Lastly thanks to all the TPers who have sent best wishes and offered help. Especially JustDave and AndyRed.
Much appreciated one & all.
Feeling a bit emotional now.

Not really sure, ive heard 3 to 4 weeks and longer, will have to wait until hospital
visit next week to find out.

Bit of an update for anyone that may be interested!

Sorry not been contributing much lately, I managed to get a bad dose of gastritis AND a bladder infection to pile on top of everything else! felt pretty low for a few days. Getting over it now though, and getting my appetite back (and taste!)
Had my stitches out and plaster cast changed, but still in a little pain. back for check-up in 3 weeks and hopefully a lighter cast.
The Docs reckon with breaking my foot as well as my leg, it will take around 3 months before I can walk as normal again! Ruddy hell, I'm fed up now!
Tried getting my leg under my desk to do some work on my images, but waste of time at the moment, could not get into it at all.
BUT, don't worry TPers, I'll be back!

Wow! Fib and Tib? You don't do things by halves, do you! During my recent stay in hospital, for the first week, I was blissfully unaware since the tumour was pressing on the cognitive area of the brain (among other places) and for the second week, I was so full of life since all the pressure had been relieved. However, I was on complete bed rest so unable to even go to the bog without an escort! The worst thing was bedpans though. Luckily, the food was OK, enough for me to miss it while I was NBM before the op.

You may find that you suffer from a hangover from the anaesthetic for a while (apparently it can take months) as well as any opiates you may have been given against the pain. Not pleasant but far better than having the op with no anaesthesia and then no pain relief, I'm certain!

Hope your pain is controlled and that normal appetites return fast, not to mention getting rid of the gastritis and bladder infection. Stitches or staples? Having the staples removed was my second least favourite thing while I was in but the nice nurse apollogised after she extracted each one. I'm sure some of them went through my skull!

Unable to drive for a while - as a result of a craniotomy, I've had to surrender my license - just hope getting it back isn't too much of a pain! Got to take anti epilepsy drugs for about 6 months but the side effects aren't bad at all and surely better than fitting.

Hope you're back on both feet soon but don't rush it, a friend now has one leg an inch shorter than the other since she put too much loading on it while her femur wasn't fully mended. get well soon.

Some may be but the food in Derriford was fine! I even managed to sweettalk the breakfast lady into soldiering my toast since my knackered front teeth make biting through it a bit difficult!

Pain not too bad now, just the odd twinge, but with lying on my back all the time, chronic backache at night is keeping me awake!
Had most of my stitches out and a new pot on. Gastritis has gone, as has the infection, had to cancel my holiday to south coast, and cannot drive because of broken foot!

Thanks Andy, food was OKish, but a bit tasteless, could be that I had no appetite anyway. I don't want to go back to find out!
