Bargains Thread

I bought it....

The Camera appears to be a Toyo View Deluxe and is near mint, lovely revolving back and the lens is very clean as is the shutter. Only problem is the bellows are toast, holier than the popes Sunday socks. Trying to decide what to do with it. The Arca is much lighter and has good bag bellows however the Toyo has a full size rail and much less slop in the system.

The tripod is a proper studio job heavy as all hell but sturdy enough to have a big view camera and stand up to a gale! So I'll keep that around.

The enlarger parts are a bit of head scratcher. The head and transformer need rewired as they cable was the old style and probably not safe so I can't readily test them. There is also a selection of random parts which are taking up a lot of space but I'm not sure what half of them are. Also as you'd imagine a 54 enlarger head is enormous!!

Eta: Mrs McG has just pointed out with the shen hao arriving the other day, I now have more LF cameras than most people have point and shoot cameras...

Saw this earlier - but a description such as "all buttons appear to be working" means it could be completely non-functional, if they have no idea how to assess the camera properly. Definitely worth a look!

But according to Camerapedia it does weigh one and a half tons! (Must admit, I was tempted enough to look it up... 1.75 kg, that's a heavy camera...) I guess you'd likely be up for a CLA and rangefinder adjust as well.

ya don't see too many of those, most of the fuji 690's are fixed lens.
got to be worth a look, after all...there are no electronics to go tits up, purely mech and quate desirable if you can find a few lenses for it

Wish I was down that way or indeed knew someone who lived that way!

i sent a txt this morning at half eight , reply was that someone was going to have a look at it at ten thirty and if they didnt want it i would get a txt . sadly no txt :(

Blimey, that was quick they still had some an hour or so ago.

...or offer £10-£12 for the sonnar (with no sticky blades) and try and persuade the guy he could sell the camera, 55mm lens and flash for £10

Very good idea, I was sharing the link with all of you in the UK, for me will not be a bargain because the shipping costs to Germany (if the seller is willing to send it international) but again, good idea and thanks! (y)

The 135mm Sonnars are very good (and have two).....for me, I seem to get more chance of pop in depth (sorta 3d) when using them....the only other one that aslo gives me more chance.of .etc is the Vivitar 135mm f2.8...anyway there weren't many bad 135mms made so it's all debatable and subjective in what lens people like and copy variation doesn't help.

I've just seen this listing for an Imacon scan of any sized neg/slide up to 5x4 for £10 without and PS work or £15 with.

Seems like a reasonable price for a single scan if you need the resolution.

H'mm they say:-

Highest resolution file - £10.00 per image. (dust uncleaned)
Highest resolution file - £15.00 per image (dust cleaned in PS)

me\ ..............by the wording it seems they can't scan without dust spots

So all you guys getting scans, from the labs mentioned, have dust spots unless they scan with digital ice....if so, would have thought it's more digital interference for film.

I think it's more that even with the best intentions there is always a chance of dust. They will be even more apparent on a high res scan so I guess the guy I linked to is covering his back.

Well a surprise (I haven't used a lab) in that when you get the Cds back it's fire up Photoshop to remove spots......which you usually have to do with an Asda scan (although my one seems to be very good since last year told the girls to wipe the negs before scaning).
BTW I'm not saying the Asda scan is equal to a lab scan for every one as they seem to clip at least the shadows, but on my type of shooting I'm happy and if a frame has a bad scan I can always rescan it myself.

To be fair, the last scans I got from Peak were the small size from my roll of half frame images off the Pen and they looked like the standard 35mm Asda scans I've had which are pretty unimpressive apart from seeing them as a digital contact sheet.

I'm only guessing on why the Gumtree seller offers two levels of service, he could just be trying to make more money off people for all I know!

I sent him a few questions, and got a preliminary reply saying he'll answer more fully later this evening.

Halifax, West Yorkshire, £50

The pictures are not very clear, but it's definitely worth checking this lot out if you are local or getting in contact with the seller. There's almost certainly a Nikon 50mm of some description attached to that F301, and there's an Olympus OM 50mm f/1.8 as well. Who knows what the other 3 hidden cameras are?
