a friend of mine took up a similar offer of which there are many variants.she had a champaigne offered on arrival,also followed by manicure,make-up and consultation,hair styling and more champagne followed by photoshoot where she was allowed upto 5 changes of outfit/lingerie where a total of 100+ images were taken,at the end there was a preview of the images where she was allowed to chose 3 images (6" x 4") to keep.again with more champaigne

now where they earned their money is by offering further images upto A4 at prices of between £40 and £100 per image and they were quite pushy until she made it very clear that she had come for the experience and the pampering

her experience was that this was an absolute bargain and she would recommend it to anyone...........just dont be tempted to buy further images beyong what the package is offering inclusive of what has already been paid

they upsell the living crap outta you once you're oohing and aaahing over the pictures :) standard studio sales method :)

plenty of snappers are biting off more than they can chew with groupon though...

lots of ways they can cut corners with this, it'll be 'fizz' not champagne, makeup artists could be work experience/interns/triallists, etc. If they're a business doing quite well anyway, then they can afford to do this kind of one-off promotion.

And as mentioned, they can charge for extra prints. So you could think 'well I get 3 free anyway, so if I buy 1 for £40, I've got 4 for £40' (as in the example above)

but basically it's just a marketing campaign, coupled with the fact it's part of the 'current craze' of groupon. And if they were clever, they'll have got some media coverage as well with the "95% discount".

Yep theres been loads like this floating around on Groupon. Knocks me sick.

I've also took a visit to this place, they were hiring for a retoucher part time a few years ago. I took one look around and ran out screaming... the makeup artist looked about 15 and the studio was a box room.

But I guess they must be doing well now if they can offer a deal like that :S
