Barcelona. Safe?

driving a camper van coming out the nu camp area and wanting to turn left crossing 8 lanes of traffic and suddenly seeing arrows on the rd pointing towards you just as you are turning left (why would they do that :( ) .. I had a panick.... this was the scariest it got.. and it was scary! :)

Sitting next to an American guy right now who got pick pocketed on las ramblas in Barcelona. Just be more aware is all... Lovely place.

Well, just landed back at Heathrow and it seems all my concerns were a waste of time. No problems at all. Five days and never seen anyone else have any bother either. we were well warned by our hotel to take care on la rambla and so we were quite vigilant at first. but there were sooo many people with DSLRs with no straps, etc just wandering around who would seem easier pickings so we just got on with enjoying ourselves. beautiful place and will def go back. just wish I took my 55-200 for Sagrada Familia :(

I went for a few days with Nikon D5000 + a few lenses, in a Lowepro Flipside bag. Totally safe, no issues, great photos. La Bocqueria (food market just off La Rambla) is a great place for some incredible shots - colourful and vibrant with loads going on.

Do it - if you are worried just take lots of SD cards and use a new one each day. Then if your camera gets taken you can claim on insurance and only lose 1 day's worth of photos... life is to short to worry about insured cameras!

He already has....If you read a couple of posts above, OP has stated that he has returned after having a good trip, with no problems! :D

As the OP has said - just make sure that there are easier options than you. And make sure that you don't look like a soft target. Backpack on your front, wallet somewhere hard to get at.

It's a bit like the two hikers disturbed by a bear when eating their packed lunch. The first says "Bert, pass me my running shoes", the second says "You'll never out run a bear !", the first says "I only need to out run you".
