Im sure I read a tread somewhere about someone using a fishing bank stick to support a flash head...off road it lets u stick it in the ground...ie for cycle sports photos...

Maybe it was a dream starting to wonder as I cant find it no matter how mant times I search...?

Wondering if you can do this...?

I remember one of the better knnown photographers (might have been Geoff Waugh??) for one of the MTB magazines mentioning that he used them, yes... sorry I can't be more specific, but you definitely haven't just dreamed it up!

Had a wee look on ebay and they vary in price quite a bit...a telescopic one would be ideal...somewhere £5-10 delivered...

I wouldnt use very often...so the £5 end is more of a probability...just need to check out the thread size...I also seem to remember that was one of the points though...the threads were the same size...double check be fore I buy...

Your talking to the guy with every power tool under the sun and a half built extension...

But quicker & cheaper to pay the £5...

You cut a hazel stick from the hedge, sharpen it to stick it in the ground - and use a super clamp. You don't have to carry any with you then!

TBMS - from fishing I know Dinsmores does a Spiral Point bankstick that has a big corkscrew on the end - greta for digging into tough ground and you can get all sorts of telepscopic versions for different length. They're tough, if a little pricey.

Otherwise, for toughness I've never found a better on than the Korum ones. I sue these for barbel fishing and they are very, very strong.

I think fishing banksticks have a 1/2" thread if my brain remember rightly.

EDIT: I have some of these...

...They come off the Korum banksticks (they're for use on a bivvy as props) and although the plastic collar isn't fixed, a dab of superglue to fix them in place and then glue them onto an AS-19 type foot and you have some flash stands for banksticks. The AS-19s are cheapest at Warehouse Express - ebay they're about a quid more plus P&P. They fit any flash hotshoe.

PM me your address and I'll send them FOC :)
