Hi guys

Feeling really down. Bank account has been used fraudulently for phone credit and medicines in America. My bank account has been stopped now, and new one set up etc...

Just feel like I've been abused.

Oh well

Regards

Sarah

It happens unfortunately - I had 3 accounts compromised recently until I figured out I was having my mail stolen after royal mail delivery, but before I could get to it. (I live in an apartment block - and we have mail boxes that face an outside wall)

As far as I'm aware.

The issue is with the direct debits - they've cancelled the account so things like my car insurance won't go out etc...

Just the last thing I need at the moment. :cuckoo:

The bank will reimburse you but it can take a while. as cymruchris says, it happens, all too often, you need to think back and try to figure out how your details were compromised.

I feel for you, i had my nantionwide card cloned a few months back, they withdrew £590 in total, Natiowide were very understanding and the money got put back withing 3 days

I had an MBNA card cloned a few years ago. £3500 gone in an afternoon, before he was stopped in Sainsburys of all places using someone elses card. Turned out he had about 20, knew all the floor limits and was buying goods just under that limit.

Sorry to hear that, just watched Trevor McDonald, they were showing how easy it is to get information files of thousands of people in any country that uses India to process there stuff. Medical records doctors names who they are treating and what illness they have, also information regarding peoples financial situations, what they owe who they owe it to etc etc.

I had my card compromised twice in 3 months, it ain't funny £1000 in total but the bank did cough up. The annoying bit was to keep having to change cards as they kept having to cancel the one that had been cloned. The really odd thing was one card was clones/used 2 weeks after it got delivered and the only accounts on the net that were updated were PayPal and iTunes. I'm just waiting for it to happen again........

That sucks.
I use my debit card as little as possibe.

Had my CC details used for 3 x £20 phone top ups a few weeks ago. Bank spotted it a suspicious transactions and confirmed that with me. I was reimbursed straight away and never out of pocket.

Sarah,

Sorry, hope it gets sorted soon.

I know how you feel. Had my CC statement a few weeks back that showed 5 transactions totalling £10,600 that weren't mine.

I felt sick.

I have to say Barclaycard have been superb. New card next day and kept me informed. Told me to ignore entire statement and no interest charge for missed payment. Have now confirmed the account has been re-credited.

Although not out of pocket it doesn't get rid of that sick feeling.

Take care,
Ken

I got hit for £1200 on my credit card a while back- the bank were great and I was reimbursed within a couple of days. I'm convinced it was down to giving card details over the phone when making a purchase fom a very respectable firm, so I just don't do it now if I can possibly avoid it.

I didn't like the sound of the guy who took my order one bit, and that's not being wise after the event.

Maybe someone on here who is knowledgeable in these matters could comment on this.

Does the fraud problem centre around cardholder not present purchases where the goods or services are not delivered to the cardholder's home address.

If that is correct then why is it permitted?

I cannot say I am happy with giving my card details to someone over the phone. It's not the only link in the chain where card details can be recorded by someone, but it is a significant one.

This happened to my wife a couple of years back, lucky the bank realised we went in the carbines on Christmas day.
They stopped the account straightaway.

I went on holiday to Dorset a couple of years ago and when I tried to get money out of a machine to spend there I was told I couldnt have any. Turned out that someone had stolen all the money out of my account. The bank sorted it out for me in a few hours so I could get some money and it was all reimbursed by the bank within a week.It is a pain though having to change cards.

I've had a couple of credit cards cancelled because they were fraudulently being used to buy mobile phone top ups. Now the bank has introduced a systems whereby they periodically suspend my card so that I am forced to call them up and confirm that it is still me using the card then they reactivate it. What I want to know is why they can't just pick up the phone and ask me, they have my number.

I got hit for about £20k about 2 years ago - somehow my card has been cloned and someone was running up huge amounts on online gamblings sites.

Luckily HSBC caught it after a few £5k transactions went on!

Had to sign a form and get it all sorted pretty quickly.
