Ban on food snappers in restaurants

I don't see the need to photograph food either.

Never done it...never will.

I don't feel the need to record what I ate. None of my family and friends are interested in what I had for lunch....really really don't get it.

get what your saying, but have you ever been anywhere that you felt the food had been prepared and plated with love that you would like to remember that meal??? again are your friends and family foodies???? if there not then they wont care, just like if some one hates motorcycle racing there not got to care about the most amazing motorcycle shots you got.

On my trip in Alsace last year, I just had to take a before and after photo of the wonderfully fresh fish that was caught that morning in the river as I'm not usually one for a full fish:

I was then left on my own to skin & bone the thing,

I was so pleased with myself that photo's had to be taken.

There is a time and a place for taking photos in a restaurant. Last February I was in the Michelin Star restaurant in San Francisco, Market One, I really wanted to take a photo of the wonderfully prepared & served Foie Gras but it just didn't feel right whipping out a compact or even a phone to take the shot.

The last food I shot was a simple "full Irish" in NYC, because I found it amusing that I got waffles drizzled in syrup on the side.

I'm as likely to snap drinks/cocktails as food though, actually more so.

Can't say it is something I have done, but who knows one day I may get the urge, can't personally see anything wrong with it, if the food is well presented why not take a snap of it?

Well, done it with a cheesecake of all things.

I'm failing to see the point of shooting food as a consumer in a restraunt....Isn't the light pretty much always going to be pants?

Bright primes, high ISO, lovely shallow DOF foodiness.

The point isn't necessarily to take an amazing photo it's about capturing the moment and the memory, you must have holiday snaps that are technically average but worthy for the moment that caught?

I've taken a few food shots on my iPhone - generally it's a beautifully presented dessert (sometimes it seems almost a shame to eat them... almost).
But I'm generally pretty quick (we're talking snapshots not art here), discrete and wouldn't dream of using flash (unlike the 95% of people who seem unwilling or unable to turn it off... grrr).
Some restaurants have a very stuffy atmosphere or tables very close together so I wouldn't do it everywhere. A blanket ban just seems a bit OTT - I imagine a lot of second-rate restaurants with delusions of grandeur will be doing this to make themselves seem "posh".

Also, this one made me chuckle :D

As a student, I had a small collection of "amusing" product packaging - that was one of my prized collection. The others were "Ming" brand rice (childish), "King-sized Japp" chocolate bar (also childish), "Plop" loo roll (very childish) and an orange juice that I think was called "Ponky" or something similar. :D

Nope...never have and never will.
What I find even more annoying are people taking a shot of me eating:thumbsdown:......No need for it!!!:nono:

Hehe, we have a collection of them here in the office :) as so many of us travel so much, we try to bring back amusing products and keep them scattered around here :D
