can anyone recommend me a cheap ball head, i know they are probably crap compared with £££ but for my need it should be more than adaquate.

price range between £50-75 or even an chinese imitation would be good as i have no idea what to look for and what are the differences between all the ball heads, other than the fact that I need it to be heavy duty enough to support my tamron 70-200mm and my camera.

id second the redsnapper its not in the same league as the £200+ ballheads but for £50 it is brilliant, i have one on my monopod atm
 
am i seeing the price right, £50 for a pistol grip?

its rather light load actually :D

how does the ball head work, its got a lot more thumb twisting thing than i liked, i thought they typically have only 1 screw which locks the motion?

theres a knob that regulates the pressure on the ball which means, once set right, you can move the camera and it stops where its put without having to touch anything.

now this is where the extra £200 comes in on the dear ones like my markins, that system works flawlessly with the redsnapper you will need to just tweak the knob a few times through the day but thats worth the £200 right?

This looks to be exactly what I'm looking for. This might be (or is) a stupid question, but this will fit onto a Manfrotto monopod won't it?
 
Not sure whether if you're just looking for a ball head or with tripod but this might be of interest.
 
i am after the head, the exact head as the one on sale, but unfortunately not the tripod
 
Watch out for the manfrotto ones... Mine split down the centre of the ball when mounting it on the tripod legs. Rather poor workmanship I thought.
