Hi guys 'n gals ...

Following CT's query, subsequent purchase and mini review of a new ball head in this thread here > > > Redsnapper

I immediately purchased the TB 12 version shown HERE ... mainly because it was the only one showing for sale and it was discounted by around 33% ... :D

Anyway ... when I got back from Nottinum this evening it was sitting on the doorstep delivered as promised by Redsnapper by CityLink ... ... superb service I have to say !

It was extremely well packed and out of the box my initial impression backs up CT's view ... it is surprisingly well made and has a quality, solid build about it.

Everything does precisely what it is supposed to do and works perfectly ... in fact it is so good I am not sure I would ever need the larger model Cedric plumped for ...

If you need a ball head and want it quickly the guys at Redsnapper will not disappoint ... amazing service and quality product ...

Thanx CT ... ... ;)

:p

Hi Admin/Mods ... :suspect: ... I guess this thread could/should have gone into the Shopping Forum  ... if you feel it would be more appropriate there please feel free to move it ... ... at no cost to myself of course ... :D

:p

So Excuse My Stupidity, Does This Just Screw Onto The Top Of The Tripod(any Make?) And Then Camera Fits On Top? Does It Include A Quick Release Plate, Or Do You Need To Buy One Of Them Seperately??

Hi Fletch ... ... no worries ... it fits on all standard thread tripods and includes the QRP and therefore camera sits on top immediately you have fitted it ... :D

I have to say I am seriously impressed with the kit for the money ... ... and with the service from Redsnapper ... :D

HTH ...

:p

Glad you're chuffed Rog. This guy really does deserve to succeed - he's producing a high quality product at around a third of the cost of the 'big names'

Fletch, it comes complete with mounting plate as Rog said, but the head is also an Arca Swiss type so will accept generic Arca type plates of any length so it's a very versatile head.

:agree: I had one of the heads delivered yesterday - excellent, I'll be working away next week but when i get back i will order a tripod, as my benbo trekker now doesn't look very comfortable with the new head and D300 mounted on it:shake: - the red snapper head is about 3 x the size of the benbo ball head.

what is an arca type plate?:shrug:and does the qrp fit the canon 40d without any other accesories?

They come in all lengths and a few different styles

They all have one thing in common - they have those dovetail type edges which fit into the generic Arca mount.

You'd only need a very short one to attach a camera body with a short lens.

For longer lenses though which usually have a tripod collar - you need a longer plate to attach to the lens foot. The longer plates allow you to slide the camera lens combo backwards or forwards in the mount, so that the mass is balanced around it's centre of gravity, then tighten up the mount for the best position for smooth panning and tilting with the lens.

I'm glad you got there first on this one Cedric ...

And I don't think you'll have a problem with it fitting the 40D Fletch ... ... you will not need anything else imhgo ... :D

I always wondered what the slidey bit in the elongated hole was for ... :suspect:

:D

thanks ct and ven, its now a lot clearer in my head. glad i subscribed to the college of TP!!

Thank me when you've visited the Wimberley site and checked out the price of their Arca lens plates!

There are less expensive ones.;)

that ok, the biggest lens i got is an 17-85 at the mo!!!

Well that's fine, but if you start off with this system you wont have to change horses mid stream - just get the plates as and when you need them.
